Burt, all credit due to the uploader of the clip, not I. However, as it turns out, my father is a fan of Benny Goodman. He bought me a licorice stick and I started taking lessons when I was in the fourth grade, so I'm far more familiar with Goodman than most of my peers (who also typically were younger than my parents are). Eventually, I dropped the clarinet, but not before also familiarizing myself with Artie Shaw (whose book, "The Trouble with Cinderella," is in my library). Some of Shaw's music is so intricate that one can indeed hear something different each time the same piece is listened to.
Lobotomy do you/or do you know the person who run the Fitzie Fitzpatrick website? I wouldnt mind getting in contact with them.
Sorry, I can't say that I do. Just now, I Googled the name of his biographer, Larry C. Burton, and didn't come up with a direct means of contact on-line. But from what I infer through information provided on that site, I suspect Burton is behind it.
Forget his name at the moment but whatabout the guy, bout 20yrs or so back, who fought for the lightheavyweight (or was it cruiserweight) title and he only had 1 leg?? Ok, he had a prostetic leg and think he was born with the 2, but a helluva feat (forgive the pun)
The cruiser who fought with a prosthetic leg was Craig Bodzianowski. Gave guys hell in the early '80s. Only lost to champs 'n contenders.
I remember reading somewhere that Hagler had thicker flesh or something around his temples compared to most. Could be BS though, can't remember where I read it/saw it though.
It was in the Boston Globe newspaper during Hagler's reign that a medical scan of his head revealed that the sheath of muscle covering the cranium that is normally a quarter inch thick for the average human was a full one inch thick over his skull, effectively providing Marv with natural head gear. This imaging also revealed that his skull itself was absolutely normal. There are exercises which can target and thicken that muscular sheath, and electro-stimulation can likewise produce the same result. The sparring process is also alleged to provide this effect over time. It is by no means certain that Hagler was born this way, and may somehow have had this occur as a gradually progressive result of the conditioning process.
