All I hear is how **** Maidana is, how Morales did this and that (fought his heart out all right), how this should change our view on EM/Pac II-III & Amir-Maidana etc. etc. - but where's Maidana's props? He fought his heart out too in a difficult situation where everybody rooted against him with many giving him undeserved smack.

Remember Morales personally handpicked Maidana based on styles, for a talented boxer or boxer-puncher Chino is there to be taken apart, and Morales saw the opporunity in the Khan fight. It turned out that WE were far more off reality than HE was and made it very close, so props to him. But that doesn't change the fact that this was the fight offered to Maidana who could take it or leave it, and despite a very punishing fight with Khan, he didn't want no tune-up but agreed on Morales' terms (including NOT using punching gloves) - and then beat Morales.

Win lose or draw, Maidana simply comes to fight and leaves everything in the ring meaning in a few fights he'll be over the hill and suffer long time effects - yet after a fight that was 10 times better than expected with two warriors putting on a show, he's getting a lot of smack. Boxing fans can be an absolute ass sometimes.

I give Maidana his props for digging deep and winning rounds 11 and 12 when Morales had him figured out. He reacted with the heart of a champion and it won him the fight. Respect.

Mentally he never quit, even though at times it looked like many fighters in that situation would have folded.

He hit on the break everytime, he hit to the back of the head, he strayed low with punches all the time.

Dirty fighter, I thought Morales did enough to deserve a draw or even a win. Maidana was outclassed technically and in his prime, even with the weight difference, Morales would have had this man for breakfast.

    :yep

    Is ESB...some things never change.

They did say several times during the telecast that Morales "had seen something" and "chose Maidana". Several times.

Some excited fans are expectedly a lil' over board, and a lot of fans want to diminish Maidana to make it seem like anybody could last 12 gettin' hit with that ****.

    So many agendas on esb..:yep

So because we you remind us that Morales "handpicked" Maidana we should all forget how Morales was laughed at and totally overlooked?

Should he really get ''props'' for clearly underpreparing for the fight? Remember, against Khan, he got dropped by an excellent body shot, which noticeably took the wind right out of him. But he got up, attacked, and was absolutely relentless for the next 11 rounds. Against Morales he was gassed after a few rounds, with all of the snap taken out of his shots. He struck me as a fighter who didn't take the fight seriously and it showed in there, he took the fight for granted and doesn't deserve credit for having to pull it out of his ass in the end.

    Bull****.

Maidana was rockin' and rollin' til' he felt Erik's crack. What makes you say that anyways? were there reports before the fight about Maidana taking his big HB****in'O PPV headliner LIGHTLY??

Anybody sayin' **** like that has some reason they need to diminish the fight (Erik's efforts) in some way.

This is how I feel kind of.

I do think as PHILLA says he deserves his props for round 11 and 12, but not necessarily for the same reasons. The main reasons why I would give him props would be for his display of killing instinct in the last two round when he realised that Morales had close to nothing left in the tank, which Maidana sniffed out and went after. While he didn't get the kill, it closed the scores to the point where I only had Morales ahead by one. I guess he does deserves some sort of praise for that.

Hand picked in the traditional way we use the word around here "seem" harsh maybe. The HBO commentators were saying over and over how Morales CHOSE to fight Maidana because he reportedly "saw something" in Maidana that made EM want a piece.

Let's not play stupid here, if I wanted to detract from Erik's victory I would say it, so dont give me that tripe. Can you honestly say Maidana maintained the power in his shots over the course of the fight? Because you're crazy if you think that. He was breathing out of his ass after a few rounds, his already slow hands were even slower and he backed a tiring Morales up less. He clearly lost steam as the fight progressed, just not to the same extent Morales did, which is why he was able to win the fight.

Maidana is inevitably going to get some **** for that fight. He was predicted by many to make short work of Morales and he didn't.

Not only that, his defense was shocking, his punches sloppy and it was only sheer workrate that got him through.

That doesn't make him look too good does it?

Maidana does the most for his abilities. He never professes to be a great, well rounded technical fighter, but rather a balls to the wall, heavy handed banger who likes to mix it up. He should be given props for taking a fight that was a lose, lose for him. He fought a legend and future hall of famer who he was supposed to destroy. Had he destroyed him, people on these boards would be calling him a one dimensional bully and would refer back to Amir Khan. Since he won a close, exciting back and forth battle, suddenly he's garbage and no longer a big hitter!! I don't get it.
