Based on the excellent logic of "Solis was winning the fight up to the Vitali KO" I'm asking our First Round Experts to analyse and post your scorecards of the Kirkland-Ishida fight, up to the first knockdown.

Who was winning the round, therefore the fight if we discount the 3 knockdowns? Who won the event?

I had Kirkland way ahead before the KO. His hand speed and ring general ship had Ishida backing up all night.

Ishida only KO'ed him because he was so scared.

    Kirkland EVT 1 Ishida:deal

    Kirkland EVT1 Ishida, no question.

If Kirkland had a full 15 rounds to work and this were the old days, Ishida's fists would be boneless ragged nubs and Kirkland would KO Ishida easily. I really think that the elimination of the 15 round fight had a big role in this one, Kirkland knew his strategy to headbutt Ishida's fists into bloody stubs would take the whole 15, but he didn't have 15--so he went into his gameplan a little bit carelessly. Still won the round, the fight, and the event in our eyes.

Kirkland was winning the fight by a country mile.

Just like Ruiz was against Tua.
