I suspect that Marciano's well-known vulnerability to old, undersized fighters would prove his demise here. Fitz by KO whenever he catches the Rock coming in.
Prime Fitzsimmons was 168lbs... Walcott & Charles were a solid 196/197lbs & 185/192lbs when they fought Rocky...
Both Moore and Charles were in the 180's. Fitz was a bit lighter, but still carried a heavyweight punch. Much like Walcott and Archie, he was an experienced older counterpuncher with a lot of power and a talent for setting traps. Ironically, Rocky had a lot less trouble with younger fighters like LaStarza and Rex Layne.
Everyone's gonna say Marciano KO early or some other nonsense but the truth is that Fitzsimmons was a less mobile, harder hitting Moore... He could put the Rock in his grave with a single punch if he was in top form...
Some sources suggest that Fitz was nearer 180lbs for some of his heavyweight fights. For whatever its worth, he might not have been a lot smaller than Charles or Matthews. I voted for Marciano, but with some reservations. This would be a verry dangerous stylistic match for him.
Suzie, we're not talking about the obese 168 pound version of Fitzsimmons that you like to bring out whenever this question comes up. Fitz will come in at a rock-solid 167. Easy victory for the Ginger Destroyer.
Don't see what's so funny. Fitzsimmons was a stationary boxer puncher with cleverness in blocking and feints. That sounds a lot like Archie to me? If Fitzie was able to KO men of 200 pounds or greater with consistency and Rock could be put on the canvas by smaller men himself then why can't Bob?
You wrote this " He could put the Rock in his grave with a single punch" :rofl:rofl:rofl - I see no evidence Fitzsimmons hit harder than Moore. I also don't see evidence Fitz had anywhere near the skills/defense/footwork/mobility/jab archie moore possessed. Fitz came up at a time where boxing style was just adjjusing from bareknuckle to modern. Archie Moore's style is much more modernly developed and technically sound than fitzsimmons. You think Fitzsimmons could get away with keeping his hands at his waist against Marciano? He would get his head taken off. Fitz had no head movement, limited upperbody movement, and was nowhere near as slick as Moore. Just to give you a heads up...Marciano beat the **** out of Archie Moore.
This content is protected exactly, a triple crown champion, destructive hitter and top 15 p4p lock stands 0 chance against the rock. the rock is too hard to defeat with his underrated defense and boxing skill. you see marciano was actually a technician who would not allow fitzsimmons to land a single punch on him, of course Fitzsimmons' accuracy and punching counts for little against the rock's advanced, skillful boxing technique. Obviously some colorful language, but I fully believe Fitzsimmons could one hit KO the rock. He did some horrible things to his opponents.
:rofl:rofl:rofl You vastly underrate Marciano's chin If Fitz got hit by a rocky roundhouse suzy Q, he would be lucky if he is awake and conscious by the next day. I can only imagine what that punch would do to a super middleweight. I don't think you realize that Marciano would slaughter Fitzsimmons in a slugfest. Marciano spent a living dismantling fighters who were similiar in style to Fitz except bigger stronger and much more skilled. Marciano would just plow through one of fitzsimmons counter traps and knock him out. Also remember, fitzsimmons did not have a strong chin. Marciano's chin is miles ahead of Fitz.
