*Attention* Boxing is not a team sport!

It's okay to be fans of guys outside of your country but to deny that patriotism or nationalism exists in boxing is just plain silly. I don't understand why when Mexicans are fanatical about one of their own, they're the "best and most loyal" fans in boxing. When residents of immigrant countries, America and UK for example, back "one of their own", everyone catches feelings.

I'm not going to avoid MY COUNTRY VS YOUR COUNTRY especially if I'm an American. My country of residence is the King of Prizefighting historically.

Shhhh. Don't tell that to Amir Khan. If team member Joe Cortez misses a World Championship fight he will be without one of the more important members of his team.

 

This how it goes for me. THe first thing that makes me a fan or not is their style and level of skill. Let's say there was a fight between two guys with similar styles and skill levels, then I would back the American.

As a lopez fan and being filipino. It was a lil hard for me to watch lopez-concepcion fight. I'm a fan of lopez but i had to cheer for my fellow countryman at the same time.

 

Being "filipino" and all, do you ever have the urge to back someone because they're American? I see that your location says you live in America.

 

There's certainly nothing wrong with supporting a fighter because he's from the same country as you.
That's just patriotism, and coming from an American, an inhabitant of probably the most patriotic land on the planet, that's quite ironic.

If you're saying that the British "only" support fighters from their own country, then frankly that's a massive generalisation, uneducated and completely false.

Yes i live in america and i'm an american citizen. I cheered for oscar delahoya during his battle with chavez sr twice-camacho sr and vargas.

i'm a fan of kevin kelley and he fought couple of mexicans back then. I cheered for him too Tyson and holyfield when they were fighting lennox lewis. For some reason i couldn't stand lewis when he was fighting.
