    Its probably worth mentioning that a huge amount of fighters enter the ring with the flag of their country. Its often emblazoned across their shorts and a lot of big fights even have the national anthem performed!

    It seems boxing and it's fighters have an inheritant need to bring nationalism / patriotism into the sport.

    You can hardly blame the fans.

    I'm over it. In fact, I can't ****ing stand Bernard Hopkins and was routing for Slappy Joe in that fight.

    And I LOVED LOVED LOVED it when Calzaghe embarrassed the **** out of Jeff Lacy. Brilliant stuff.

    Actually, athletes tend to care less about this than 'fans' in my experience. They tend to admire someone for their accomplishments and can respect them for that reason alone because the KNOW what it takes.
