To be fair to the judges who scored 116-112, I dont know how far from the ring they sit, but they must have thought that Maidana was landing the flurries that was backing Morales to the ropes. From the very beggining, when I saw Morales at the ropes playing and swiveling alot of waist movement, as one who was scoring the fight, I became more intent on watching to see if Maidana's blows were actually landing. I found that the great percentage of them were not. ......on the flipside, when Morales came foward throwing combinations, his shots were landing square, hard, and clean. As a whole, Maidana was shook more throughout the fight than Morales was. Ulimately Morales did gas in the final two rounds. His workrate was poor in those two rounds. Thats where I agree Maidana should be given those rounds based on sheer workrate, even if his shots are'nt landing clean and square. If you work and your opponent does'nt, you win the round. .....but in the instances that you outwork your opponent by a small margin, but have alot more cleaner and effective shots landed on you, you lose that round. Too many rounds where this happened, Morales despite being out-thrown, was landing cleaner shots and just in command of Maidana.
114-114 though i believe if anyone edged it it was Erik. Maidana got dirty from round 5, using the head and hitting on the break. Could and should have been deducted a point. WAR MORALES!!!
maidana clearly won rounds 1 2 3 4 9, 11, 12 sympathy doesnt win rounds. the fact it was expected to be a easy night and it wasnt. doesnt make morales automatically win. maidana landed 20 punches in a round and then coming back with a 4 punch combo doesn't win the round. The score cards were completely fine
Maidana deserves credit as well. Morales had a huge skill advantage over him, and the crowd was roaring in those midrounds when "El Terrible was in command." .....a lesser fighter would have lost focus under those circumstances. Maidana did'nt......he was tired as well, but his youth allowed him dig down deep and pull the last couple of rounds. Maidana is'nt an overrated media creation. He fought within the framework of his own strenghths, and he should be given credit for that. Being taken to school in long stretches of the fight by a great and accomplished legend like Erik Morales is certainly nothing to be ashamed of.
It's irrefutable. The second best EVT win of the year and up there with one of the best EVTs of the decade.
Whoever has that fight for Morales is either blind or biased, just because he show more that what we expected, it doesn't mean he won the fight, he made it closer but no cigar, he loss a least 3 of the first four rounds and won 3 of the next 4 some of them very close, and he clearly loss 9, 11, and 12, 7-5 for Maidana.
I dont agree....... I had three rounds on my scorecard that I labeled could have been scored even.......the 4th, 6th, and 9th. I scored the 4th and 9th to Maidana, and the 6th to Morales. If anything, Maidana because of his aggression and workrate got the benefit of the closer rounds on my scorecard. My final score btw was 114-114.
So, you had it 7-5 Maidana, yet if anybody has it for Morales it's wrong. Yea, makes perfect sense. :rofl atsch
