I couldn't help but feel bad for Kirkland on saturday

I know boxers don't get any sympathy on ESB after a loss, but I felt pretty bad for the dude. One of the hottest boxers in the sport before the fight and too lose by 1st round KO? Not just that, but he was trying to justify the loss after the fight and got booed, God Damn! That has to be an ego check. He seemed kinda humbled after the interview, couldn't help but feel for him. Hope dude comes back strong!

On a side note, I thought Ishida winning was awesome though. He seemed genuinly ecstatic after the fight and at the very least is guaranteed a couple big pay days.

 

Ishida was awesome last night.

Came in with speed, power, and accuracy. No excuses, he was the better man.

 

Completely agreed, fought a great fight.

 

It was the most shocking thing of the night i thought. When you consider the performance Morales put in that tells you alot.

I always thought he had his flaws but they would definitely not be exposed that night.

 

Man I wanted Kirkland to win, but there should be no excuses he already had 2 fights to shake off the cobwebs. I knew he was a knockout waiting to happen I don't know why people don't mention his fight with Conyers. I think most haven't seen it. Kirkland is strong, but is too one dimensional. Another fighter that relies too much on power only and then meets someone that could handle their power and crumbles. If he accepts his defeat and works on his defense he may be back, but excuses won't do him any good.

 

i didn't feel bad for lemieux or kirkland. i felt happy for rubio and ishido though.

I feel bad for James. Even watching it again it is hard to imagine what went so wrong. I've seen him take bigger shots before and he was barely down the third time and was already getting back up. Almost seemed like he had an inner ear infection affecting his balance or something. Even watching it again today it just seemed strange somehow.

See Ishida's face during the interview when the crowd cheered him. That was great to see.

Yeah i couldnt agree more, i was happy for him. I gained a lot of respect from him because he wasnt gonna let kirkland make him another notch on his belt

Both of the losers should be grateful and humbled for the opportunity to learn from their first loss (and that it didn't come at the hands of someone who could have seriously hurt them...like SGM :deal)

 

I didn't feel bad for him. First off, too much emphasis is put on "undefeated" anyway, but that's another topic for another thread. Secondly, we'll see what he's really made of, and how he bounces back. Looked to me like he completely underestimated his opponent (much like Lemieux) and paid the price.

I too thought he was a KO just waiting to happen. He relies too much on brute force and not enough on skill & defense. Hopefully he'll get back in the gym and work on some stuff and give it a shot. I just hope for everyone's sake that he stays off the streets.

 

Not the point. He is human and a competitor or he wouldn't be in that position. It has to sting and whether the emphasis on undefeated is warranted or not, it is still there.

the sadest part to me was that Kirkland looked like he didnt even belong in the ring.
