hmmmmmmmmmm :think i have to disagree with you sir, a man once tried to rob (and possibly ****) me, and i hit him with a very quick and hard left hook right to the chin and he fell like a ladder, dropping his gun in the process, needless to say, i was safe thanks to my training in boxing :good
Boxing won't help you when you have a knife to your throat from behind or a gun to the back of our head when you're on your knees or if somebody attacks you with a baseball bat or if you get taken down to the ground or if there's more than one attacker with a weapon or if you're in a restraied position which doesn't allow you to punch. Just a few problems with boxing there. Boxing is good if you can disable an attacker with a single strike, but that's rare.
:think i have to disagree with your statement though, if i can left hook a guy with a gun pointed at me, i'm preeeeeeeeeeeetty sure a baseball bat won't help them much atsch but yes, if i'm in a restrained position where i can't punch, i MIGHT be in trouble, but what kinda position are we talking about????? doggystyle?????
If you need to go to training to learn to kick people in the bollocks then by all means go and go now. All honest self defense instructors including those who teach KM will tell you the best form of self defense when someone is pointing a gun at your head is to give them what they want. You would only try disarming if you knew it was your life they wanted, because it doesn't matter how much you train disarming can go wrong and end up getting you killed, not really worth the risk when all the person wanted was that $20 in your pocket. Truly effective self defense is a lot less glamorous than the flashy moves on the videos, it teaches you to avoid getting a gun pointed to your head in the first place.
Many of the techniques being too dangerous for sparing is a big negative for me. The history of martial arts has proven that full speed sparing trumps all kata techniques no matter how good said techniques are in theory.
light heavy. could prob make middle if need be. just fought nats at heavy. was a mistake. dudes were 20-30 lbs heavier and broke my hand on an ogre's head in semis.
oh i was wondering, because you looked pretty big (i mean that in a non-homosexual way :thumbsup) and tall, but yea same here, except i fought in febuary in my city's golden gloves' at Middleweight (165 lbs) but i could've and probably should've went down to 156 or 154, which is what i'll be doing in the next tournament this summer, but damn bro, that sucks, breaking your hand :-(
Yeah, this story is believable... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpecVLil2sA&feature=player_embedded[/ame]
