If I had the money, I'd buy the WBA/WBC and IBF. I'd fire everyone from the WBA/WBC. I'd throw away their business model entirely. I would keep the look of the WBA Super Champion belt (red, white, blue one. it is nice looking) and the name of the WBA (because its the oldest of the bunch). I would keep the rules and business model of the IBF. I would keep nothing from the WBC. There would be one champion in each division at the World, Intercontinental, Regional (North America, Europe, etc..) and National levels (US, UK, Canadian, etc). World Champions would only fight the Intercontinental Champion. You couldn't fight for Intercontinental without being a Regional Champion. You couldn't fight for a Regional Champion without being a National Champion. Continual tournaments would be underway at all levels to determine champions. Intercontinental Champions would be crowned by winning a tournament of Regional Champions. Regional Champions would be crowned by winning a tournament of National Champions. National division tournaments would be in place to rank fighters from divisions and let them compete fairly. In the US this might look like Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, South, Mountain, Northwest, Southwest divisions.
how much money would you need to do something like that, I doubt even oscar or big george has enough. I think the most realistic way to get boxing back on top is tv channels only airing fights us fans want to see thus making boxing more fair, and no bull**** stripping or 20 champs, problem is that they are as money focuessed as the wbc and wba.
It would be global exposure. Imagine that each week free network television showed updates on the National Division fights. In the Summer of each year the National Division Champions compete for the National titles and a National Champion in crowned on free network television. The Regional Tournament begins as National Champions are announced. These fights air on ESPN Friday Night Fights. Regional Champions are crowned in the Fall and the Intercontinental Tourney starts on Prime Time network television. At the beginning of the new year the Intercontinental Champion faces the World Champion on PPV. Then, the cycle repeats itself.
If only I had the money, I would so finnace your operation here. How great the boxing world would be...one can dream...
