i dont think maidana trained properly for morales

im not taking anything away from morales but that was a very different maidana performance than the one that took on khan

maidana was gassed after 4 rounds , his punches were evn slower and is accuracy was terrible.

morales was excellent it wasnt his problem that maidana didnt prepare properly. Morales weathered the early storm then came right back into the fight with accurate punching.

how the hell did he continue with that eye??? i thought the fight should have been stopped because of it but again morales showed just how much of a fighetr he is by doing the full 12 rounds with one eye.

ps: i had the fight 115-113 maidana , level after 10 but maidana just pulled away in those last 2 rounds

Can't agree more. I know it was a fast pace he set in the first but Morales was doing little back. If he kept that up for a few rounds there would be massive pressure on the ref (can't remember was it Tony Weeks?) to stop it. He proved against Cayo, Khan and Kotelnik he has a high workrate, I think he undertrained too- either that or he got too confident after the first and really started loading up on shots.

 

no, its because He was against a season veteran and a technical fighter. If Morales was a little younger Maidana would:hi: be knockout. You see that Morales knew how to counter punch and put the combinations. He was just a little slow to finish the job. Maidana was all punch,,it was the stamina factor that made the edge in favor of Maidana:bbb

 

Again, are you basing this on the "Maidana" in your head or on reality? He never was a full-intensity fighter or a stamina king, he just kept coming back from hell with pure heart which was needed again. He didn't look much worse than any other time, only Morales thought - and saw something good - that Maidana's style is ideal for him and he was in better shape than expected, so that resulted in a such a fight. More than undertrained Chino's late change of trainers could've affected his preparation mentally, he was supposed to prepare under Beristain, who 3 hours before arrival said go back to Argentina I won't train you. Plus add the Khan fight effects and that Chino couldn't use punching gloves (Morales' request), and you get this Maidana.

When did he ever look in so much better shape?

If you dont train properly you dont come into a fight throwing more punches than you ever have before.

 

I suppose that's why he nearly knocked out Khan, he knocked out Ortiz, lost a split decision to Kotelnik, and has been competitive against a very high level of opposition for the last 3 years!!

 

going for the knockout + missing constantly + banging on an iron chin = exuastion

 

I did think the same during the fight. Maidana may have took Morales lightly, but he sure learned his lesson, he look gassed in the second half.

 

You're completly wrong

It was the same Madina who foguth Khan. He just has no skills, a big heart and the ability to never cut or bruise

Madina is a very simple fighter, and anyone with knowledge of when and how to throw a punch will beat him

 

I don't think he trains properly period. He looked gassed in his last two fights. Although, The body shot he took from Khan might have contributed to it.

 

There's a bit of a trend in boxing (from what I've experienced in recent years anyway), and thats technique/speed in most cases will always trump pure punching power. There are a few exceptions here and there but just a few examples:

Hopkins vs Pavlik
Martinez vs Pavlik
Hopkins vs Pascal
Dirrell vs Abraham
Froch vs Abraham
Khan vs Maidana

I could go on. I think in this instance, Maidana was seriously loading up on individual shots, giving Morales the chance to block/evade a lot, hence the close decision.
