I agree that he was not the same and i put this down to poor cardio.

His punches had less power, he looked physically tired after say 5 rounds and he just was not as aggressive as usual. Yes Morales probably made him look worse as morales has some skills, but he was not the same guy that took on Khan.

IMO it is a combination of poor training and also after the Khan loss he might not be the same fighter mentally. Either way he needs to get back on track.

You make it sound like you know 100% for a fact Maidana was not prepared for Morales , something im not buying !! , if he wasnt thats his bad , he should know that a major mistake like losing to Morales would damage his stock at Golden Boy , and risk his career stalling , a little bit like what Victor Ortiz has been through .

Maidana won the fight ............... but it wasnt pretty , if Morales had a little bit of gas left in the tank he would of walked away the winner on the night , but he hasnt and Maidana got the nod , right fully so too !!

It is what it is , but presuming that Maidana wasnt prepared is giving him a free pass , he doesnt deserve a free pass after that performance .

    Agree.

I believe he went over the 1,200 punches mark against Kotelnik.

Last 2 fights? Ortiz, Cayo, Corley, Khan and Morales(in all of them he was out of gas by the 6th)

Morales is excellent at the subtle things in the ring. Sure he is pretty much dead at this point, but the memory and muscle memory allowed him to survive that fight and make an epic comeback considering he wasn't supposed to make it out of the first.

Madonna isn't one of these crude brawlers that has insane stamina & a indestructible chin. He's a crude brawler with an average chin & average stamina. The only thing he has on Morales is youth & power, so of course Morales was gonna his moments

Let's just be honest. 140 is an exciting & entertaining division, but all the talent there is very overrated. There are some solid guys there, but none of the guys are that great. They are just guys that can make for entertaining fights (which is fine by me).

It was more about Morales' incredible heart and second-to-none experience, than Maidana's supposed limited ability. The likes of Khan and Ortiz - two young guys with hardly any experience of being in wars - are perfect for Maidana. But when he's up against savvy veterans - Kotelnik, Morales and Corely - who know how to cope with with powerful sluggers, he's made to struggle.

I dont think Morales trained at all and still kicked his ass. As for Maidana he said he didnt underestimate Morales.

I think he had the wrong strategy, inasmuch as he ever HAS a strategy. He did most of the right things, just came in winging punches too wide. And as someone already said, Morales' natural ability and muscle memory allowed him to come in with straighter punches and make the impact that he did.

hey, did anyone note that Maidana had a new trainer this fight? Also, what was the time since the Khan fight? He's not gifted, but he is exciting. He is good for boxing.

Maidana entered the ring expecting to blast Morales out quickly and gassed trying to do so, Morales was superb riding that storm out before turning the fight on its head. Maidana is getting allot of unfair hate on this forum, he made the same mistake as the vast majority of us and expected the shell of Morales to enter the ring, instead he met a warrior hellbent on coming away with a victory.
