3 ATG light heavy's that are probably not in anyones top ten

Well yea, what was he 33, and he'd be picking up his second Barkley loss in his next fight. Still a top fighter but a top10 LHW should be beating a 33yo Hearns imo or have some rather special wins to compensate for the loss. If Hill had won, gone undefeated into the Darius fight and added Moorer, McCallum, Charles Williams to his resume and maybe a Toney superfight, he'd have a very good case to be a top10. As it is in his prime he lost to the best fighter he faced, who in turn wasn't a great LHW

 

Whoa, whoa...I was not bigging up any kind of top-ten status for Hill. Only the "welterweight" mentality I disagree with.

That is how I see it. There is always talk about how the heavyweight division lacks talent, but a top talent at light heavy these days is just as bad, if not worse.

DM vs. Roy Jones would have been nice. I would pick Jones via UD, but with his chin, you never know.

I think who you are beating is more important than how many wins you have.
For example Lamar Clark notched up 46 fights ,43 wins with 42 kos, a 5 fiight Ali stopped him a 6-3-1 Rademacher stopped him, and some one called Bartolo Soni stopped him . On paper Clark's record looks good but his wins were over ham and eggers.

 

A prime John Conteh would have given the immortals of this division a great fight.

Hill was a big fight choker who really strugged or lost to all the best fighters he fought, even if he was a bit past it against Dariusz and Jones to be fair.His finest hour was probably the close win against Maske, another solid fighter who i liked, but thought of as a less talented, slower Chris Finnegan.Not someone where edging them in a close chessmatch is a mark of greatness.His other bigger wins were mostly against blown up aging middles or decent at best 2nd tier types.

Hill was a solid good fighter overall, but in a division with no small amount of great outside fighters and stylists, his one-paced, relatively predictable stick and move style is hardly top ten material imo.

I liked Dariusz too.A really tough guy with formidable, well-rounded offensive ability.However he wasn't too hard to hit, nor versatile and stuff like the Rocchigiani farce really make me question his ability to see through his steady pressure game in against the greats and borderline greats.also lacks a strong group of names in the win column.

 

JOE CHOYNSKI - is he classed as a light heavy? I know he weighed around the 170/175 ballpark - great fight by all accounts - somewhat of a catchweight fighter - but never certainly never seen him in any top tens - and don't expect to - but mixed it with John L, Corbett, Fitz (I think), Jeffries, ('stopped') Jack Johnson under dubious circumstances, also fought Barbados Joe Walcott, George Godfrey (the original), Tom Sharkey amongst others - gave Corbett a really really tough fight for 27 rounds
