From the scene where there's boxing, Lamont Peterson claimed that "Black fighters get little support from Black fans".

Is this generally true?

If so, why do you think this is happening to Black fighters?

 

Uh that's not 100 percent true, but Mexicans and Cubans and Filipinos support their fighters more though

To answer your question, there was an article I read where it stated that aside from white Americans losing interest in boxing, the same trend is happening with black Americans. They are just more focused on other sports.

In my personal experience, I don't see it. I watched Floyd-Shane and Pac-Margarito at 2 different bars here in Los Angeles and both times the blacks made up close to 50% of the crowd.

The other big surprise for me was that I thought there would be more supporters of Floyd. At one bar where about 500 people watched the Mayweather-Mosley fight, only ONE black lady clapped for Floyd as he entered the ring. I was shocked.

 

You can add Ricans, Brits, Germans, Canadians...

 

Filipinos support good fighters regardless of nationality. Alot of them even hate Donaire for reasons outside of boxing.

 

Black folk support boxing, not as much as Mexicans of course, but certainly more then white Americans.

But I'm just saying other races, Filipinos included, back their fighters more than black folk.

 

Thats an interesting theory. I know hispanics tend to be the ones buying PPVs, but I thought there were going to be some white folks following the sport, mostly older generation whites maybe? :think

 

Yea, that seems pretty true. I don't recall, recently, where a black U.S. fighter has a massive fanbase that travels. And it's not like there haven't been any good black U.S. fighters recently. Hell the only white U.S. fighter that has had any success recently was Kelly Pavlik and he had a massive fanbase that traveled.

 

I had this debate on here recently when someone tried to say Blacks arent into boxing anymore. As far as competing true but as fans i disagree... And like you im from LA.... DOnt know if its an LA black thing(I doubt it) but most blacks i know like boxing. If you attend fights out here there are more Mexican fans but thats cause we are in SO CAL.. But you always see alot of black fans supporting there fighters.. Dont know what Peterson is tripping on... Just being a Whiner:crybaby.... Hes from the DC area and although ive never been out there i do know theres a lot of fight fans, gyms and fighters coming from his area.

 

I wouldn't say it's a problem with black fighters, more a problem of American fans not supporting their own guys. Compare the support US fighters get compared to any other fighters' support

hell of a lot more white folks support boxing. pretty clear just going by this forum.
