hes one of the best ever no question but alot of people got turned off by his performances as he could be kind of cautious. the biggest names he beat in tyson and holyfield, were washed up when he fought them but thats not his fault, those guys were particularly interested in fighting him in the mid 90's. and people still hold the rahman and mccall knockouts over him still.

at then the end of the day, hes a top 10 hw all-time. wherever you rank on the list is up to you.

Lennox Lewis was good BUT NOT one of the greatest HW's ever????? He is soo overrated!

He had a good jab which he hid behind all throughout his career against the dangerous fighters. Hes such a pu**y and didnt trust his own chin enough in my opinion. I dont think u can even count his wins against Tyson and Holyfield being great triumphs because both opponents best days had past them by the time Lewis got around to fighting them. He ducked Tyson when Mike came out of prison and didnt put pen to paper for Holyfield until Holyfield was past it. So what he beat Rahmans, Briggs, Galota, Mcall, Bruno, etc etc...they all average to crap fighters. And Ruddock wasnt interested in boxing when he fought Lewis. Riddick Bowe wasnt even in love with the game no more and had out of ring problems. Lewis was a very CLEVER fighter who knew who to avoid at the right time but when the time was right for him he would call for the fight, only if he felt he was either the younger man or the fighter was washed up.

He deserves to be remembered as a champ who just fought average fighters that were around at the time NOT a legend! And im British! LENNOX LEWIS HAD QUESTIONABLE CHIN AND HEART!

Lewis vs Louis (Lennox wins as too heavy for Louis, UD)

Lewis vs Norton (Lennox wins as he hides behind jab for 15 rounds and gets UD)

Lewis vs Frazier (Smokin joe gets through and knocks chinny Lennox out in about 4/5)

Lewis vs Foreman ( Big George puts Lennox on his ass in round 1, no matter how hard Lennox tries to hide behind the jab)

Lewis vs Holmes (Lennox hides all the way thru the fight but Larry catches him late with a flurry of punches and the fight is stopped)

Lewis vs Ali (Oh plse, Lennox retires at his stool at the end of round 4 as he is so dizzy with the punches that have gotten through his jab OR if Ali connects its goodnight Lennox)

Lewis vs Prime TYSON (Lennox gets so scared and doesnt turn up to the arena and we never see this big soft marshmallow heart boxer again)

Lewis vs Prime Holyfield (Lennox hides behind the jab all fight and Holyfield gets decision)

Ok as u can gather, i dont, never have, never will rate the guy as a fighter but he boxed clever and played the waiting game, waited to fight the other fighters when they were out of their prime or had other non boxing related problems. So i dont think he deserves half of the respect that he gets from armchair boxing fans, delusional british fans and british pundits and ex british boxers. And im British myself so not being anti british, the guy was just a little bit above average.

    please come back at me!

No he didn't, he won several titles in an era of great punchers and was caught twice.

Interesting enough there's a poster on here he sparred with the likes of Lewis, old Foreman, and Bowe and he thinks that no matter who you are, if you get hit just right, you're going down, and he bases that on experience.

Common sense alone should get you to the same conclussion but connon sense is sorely lacking in this high school venue called the general.

Fact is many fighters, including Tyson and Foreman were down in their careers more time than Lewis was. It's just that Tyson took systematic beatings before getting KO'd, like for some reason that lets him off the hook.

well you cant deny that foreman and tyson didnt have great chins. because it took alot of punishment to put those guys down is why people credit them for having good beards. bow you can make the argument that they both would have gotten koed if they got hit with the same shot that rahmen koed lewis with but how far will you get, it something that can never be proven.

all in all, lewis is chin wasnt spectacular but it was glass either as some calim, and he avenged both losses.

Lewis ****s up Frazier and Norton early, loses a tight decision to Ali and decapitates Foreman in the mid rounds (a wild slugger like young Foreman was made to order for Lewis).

Holmes and Louis I'm not so sure about... both could go either way.

He also blasts out Bowe, wins a decision over Tyson (maybe a late stoppage) and beats Holyfield via UD

Classic example of how some fans GROSSLY overate Lewis. He's not even the best HW of his era - that's Holyfield.

Sorry, can't be the greatest when you get take out early by two mediocre fighters when you are at the top of the game.

Lewis, a GRANITE chin?? :rofl :rofl :rofl Shaky, at best.:yep

Pretty much this. He's about 10th to me, gets moved around between say 8-12th depending on the day. H2H he's a monster, but that doesn't mean everything.

Theres only one thing that pisses me off. People that hail Lennox and slag off Wlad, Lennox certainly was not involved in that many exciting fights. A handful at most.

Haye kisses up to Lewis, but the fact is if Haye was around that time, he would be slagging him off, calling him boring. blah blah.

That's what annoys me, the dumb brit fans who seem to slag off Wlad for being boring and hail lennox.

I woner if most of thes guys ever watched him.:huh

The problem with that analogy is that Lewis could actually go to war and finish a guy early when he had to. And was far less reliant on the jab and clinch.

Wlad could never have survived the early onslaught from a guy like Vitali or a young Briggs for example.

Not knocking Wlad, what he does works, but Lewis had that killer instinct that Wlad clearly lacks.
