An indication of RING IQ would surely be adapting defensively to a specific punch that gets through. Something Floyd has done successfully time and time again, regardless if he's winning the fight or not up untill the moment he figures you out.

  2. what i meant to say was that he will follow his instincts only when absolutely necessary. when he's hurt for instance. u can bet your bottom dollar that someone from his team watched a ton of footage and they worked on that in the gym. what they show on those 27/4 type shows isnt always real. what the boxers themselves say in public doesnt always reflect reality. u'd have to be an absolute imbecile to step into the ring without someone from your team doing some kind of research on your opponent.

Wtf? Kirkland immediately adjusted to that soft left jab by going to the canvas where he was completely out of danger. It only took him 13 seconds to adapt.

  7. no, i cant because it's not a simple yes or no answer.

So Mayweather being athletically superior to almost all of his opponents, that doesn't put him up there with the highest ring IQ in the sport?

Pacquiao's intelligence is underrated to a point. Roach and Manny work on great gameplans before the bout, but he certainly does adjust more now than he used to. For example, he is more calculated in his approach, he's not just an offensive boxer because he has the tools to be...he takes his time now, is more patient, and he knows when the best time to attack is, using a variety of angles in the process.

Then qualify your answer. You totally dodged the question. And it is a simple yes or no question.

Actually just explain to me how it could possibly be anything other than stupid for a fighter to refuse to watch film of his opponent. That should suffice.

RING IQ doesn't encompass defense alone. if you think you're tougher and can absorb more punch than your opponent and used that strategy to put some punches of your own, it's using your RING IQ as well. it's about maximizing your style to impose on your opponent to get the win. of course there is other such thing as versatility which can be confused with RING IQ.

It's not the be all end all definition of ring IQ, but it surely is AN INDICATION OF RING IQ, NO?
