Not a fan,But Lewis was GREAT.

Sonny Liston knocks him out cold though.

Wlad was a beast before his losses, Manny has turned him into what you see today. It seems Wlad has been psychologically affected by the losses, combine that with Stewards training and we see Wlad taking little risk and using much less variety.

People blame Wlad, but mostly Steward is the reason for the way Wlad fights.

I thought the most exciting fight he had was in was his last. That was a great 6 round war, like the outcome or not, he did win fair and square, Vitali needed to push it and he didn't, the cut was caused from a punch, Vitali won the event and most the rounds, but he got caught with that right opening that cut. That was a great fight. Either way Lewis is top ten I'd say. Had a great right, size, pretty much everything you need in the modern era, if I was to question anything about him it would be his commitment to training and getting a little sidetracked out of the ring and taking some fights lightly, like when he got KTFO twice and came in sloppy against Vitali at 256. To his credit though, he said I'm done, he knew it and retired and never came back, maybe only Marciano at HW and Lewis have ever stayed true to there retirement. I do think a prime, pre-wwII Joe Louis could have given him a big test, Joe was very fast and strong, great jab and right hand, but also had a questionable chin, he was down many times in his fights, always seeming to get back up and win, but against a guy this much bigger?? Pick em fight there. Lewis certainly top 10 though.

Oh yeah I agree... Steward is a smart guy and knows how to bring out a guys strengths while hiding their weaknesses as best he can.

Lewis at times pissed me off with his inability to take risks (He could have stopped Holyfield I think, and should have KO'd Tyson a lot quicker), but Wlad takes it the next level.

Lennox has a lot of nuthuggers who fantasize about his seemingly great resume. But on boxrec, you can see the age and (especially) the weight of his opponents. The best names on his record are Tyson, who was old and extremely fat; Holyfield, who was 37 or 38 (and a tough struggle for Lennox), and Tony Tucker, who was an excellent HW in the 80s. When Tucker was 35 and a cocaine addict, Lennox decided to fight him.

George Foreman... "Lennox is beyond doubt the greatest heavyweight of all time," Foreman said. "He is not second any more. He is there at the top of the tree. He reminded me of a young George Foreman and an elusive Muhammad Ali. He has everything you want in a fighter.

Emanuel Steward "My idea is to make him into a large version of Sugar Ray Robinson, not Muhammad Ali," he said. "Because I truly believe Lennox can be better than him. He can do things Ali couldn't do. Lennox can box. But he still has that raw-boned punch power."

    **** the haters....

Nothing against Lewis, I rate him highly...however he was KTFO twice and ended his career a controvsersial note. Penty of ammo for haters.

I hated Lennox Lewis when he was active, mostly because I was a Tyson fan.
Now, I think the guy is probably one of the 5 best heavyweights ever.
6 foot 5 (probably 6,6), insane reach, probably the strongest heavyweight since Prime Foreman, concussive power, avenged all of his losses and dominated everyone else he fought. He was an excellent boxer, with good sense of timing.
The guy has natural phisycal advantages over any other of the top heavyweights in history.
Anybody who says Ali or a Prime Tyson would have an "easy" time with a prime Lennox is just DUMB.

Excellent takes, my only exceptions are Bowe and Liston...Bowe ducked him, I think that gives Lewis the clear edge...Liston would ko Lewis 2 or 3 times out of 3, his jab was brutal and despite the phantom ko in the 2nd Ali fight, he had a granite chin to go with his clubbing power...

I think even his critics rate Lewis high on the atg list...Those that overlook his one punch ko losses and his play it safe approach against guys like Holyfield (far past prime), are the ones that over-rate him into the top 3 or even number 1...

His chin was way better than given credit but, still the worst in any top 10 atg list I've seen...

Because he was KO'd by bums, typical UK glass chin, and escaped from his biggest fight- rematch with vitali.
