    And Vs Welterweight Benitez?

Benitez was green when he beat Cervantes, but what a sight it is!

Yeah, beautiful mate but I think he would have gotten "outmanned" over the distance by a 27(?) year old Mayweather.

At welterweight when Benitez was 21 I'd take him over Mayweather on points. One fighter getting better and the other standing still (if that!).

I rate Mayweather <140 lbs but after that his career has been a waste of time IMHO.

Who do you fancy at 140 and 147 vs. Benitiez?

I'll got with Mayweather decision in a close 7-5 chess match, type of fight. Floyd has better offense even though Benitez was probabily a better and bigger puncher.

I'm rolling exactly the same as you my friend, for exactly the same reasons :good

There aren't too many 'great' Welters I'd pick him over. Most have the chin and poise to outwork him at least. There are some boxers up there as gifted as him and much more proven, with higher outputs and more variety. I imagine Don Curry for instance, would be a nightmare for him. I reckon he could outmanouver McLarnin, Trinidad (really, really not certain on that one though, REALLY)

I'd favour him to outfox Palomino over 12, probably.Cuevas too but he really has to stay off the ropes in that one. Taking shots on the shoulders and arms from Pipino is going to make him defenceless pretty quickly IMO. Floyd would need to use his advanathes in that one, and bar power (and that's a real biggie here) he can negate the only think he's trumped on and win a fairly wide and easy decision.

This is assuming Welterweight Floyd can remain consistently elusive against far etter offensive fighters than he has looked consistently elusive against thus far.

A great thread would be "H2H welters". Just H2H, theres some real beasts in there that are easy to rank on accomplishments but would probably beat the guys ranked ahead of them based purely on accomplishments.

(If you see what I'm saying?)

This is very interesting for anyone who still thinks Leonard ducked Pryor. Start viewing from 11:30. Pryor admits he was offered half a million and turned it down. Another thing, his trainer Dave Jacobs who knew Leonard very well wanted Pryor to stay at 140 or even get down to lightweight. If anything it was Pryor/his people who wanted nothing to do with Leonard. Trust me, they knew what would've happened to Pryor had he got in there with the killer that was Ray Leonard.

You mentioning Curry in your post made me think. He was maybe top 20 at welter on accomplishments (?) but easily top 10 H2H? Hearns and Langford are others that spring to mind.

    That kind of thing...

Yeah, I'd say probably outside the top 20. But yes, at his best sublime and aesthetically, he appears a perfect fighter.

If there's one thing I'm looking forward to more than my holiday next week, it's the fact I can read about Langford-Walcott during the Holiday :happy

    Very good idea that.
