Riddick was just too hittable. He was NEVER hard to find. At his very best, an offensive dynamo that was hard to miss. And you cannot give a peak Mike that much of a target consistently. No heavyweight is gonna handle going into a fire fight with that guy and no head movement with low hands. Its a fun fight, and Bowe tags him several times huge, lands some memorable right uppercuts, but just gets the tar knocked out of him when he lags and gets stopped on his feet. It wasnt in him to box a disciplined gameplan. He wasn't a boxer. He was a talented boxer puncher with a knack for going inside to do his best work. He never had the great movement or the great defense to tame a puncher like Tyson with a boxing first gameplan. He had all the advantages against Holyfield, and did beat him clearly, but struggled in spots and was hit and hurt. Tyson doesn't let him off the hook.
good post, you hit alot of key points, not alot to add. bowe would be exchanging with a man who hits harder then he does and who probably has a better chin. that wouldnt a good game plan. the key to beating tyson is outboxing him, not trading with him.
Thats why Bowe is so overated - He was great if he was slugging out against a non puncher 30lbs lighter When he needed to adapt he couldnt, and where one fighter was found out, oh no not Bowe, he just became overnight shot.
thats the problem when you rate bowe, he never fought another big heavyweight who could punch. tyson wasnt a big hw but his power was as good as it got. bowe had his chance to enhance his legacy by fighting lennox lewis but he wanted no part of him. one of the most blatant ducks you'll ever see. its a shame to, the guy had alot of talent.
I dunno. Bowe was very good. He only lost one fight. I wish this fight would've happened. That and the Lennox Lewis one too.
Tyson stops Bowe in 5. Bowe has all the tools, excellent jab, good power, can get on his bicycle if he needs to etc., but he is just too dumb and would easily get bated into going toe to toe.
