Jamie McDonnell is to make his first defence of the Bantam Commonwealth Belt he won via a SD win against Ian Napa in Jan 2010. McDonnell is scheduled to defend against an un-named opponent at the Hillsbrough Leisure Centre live on Sky Sports on 28.5.11. Anyone got any ideas on who he could be fighting? And also how do you think he would fair against Stuey Hall?
It's a shame that Mismatch isn't going to put these two in with each other. They've got all the relevant belts, McDonnell has come off a couple of excellent wins, whilst Hall's opposition has been weaker they've all been dispatched in impressive fashion. Would be a good local derby this - even though Hall is a Geordie he's based in Leeds. Could always have it at Barnsley Metrodome or somewhere in Newcastle.
Perhaps he has a commonwealth title fight as they are busy negotiating a EBU defence against Hall and this is a keep busy 6 or 7 rounds to shake the rust off before the Hall fight is announced. Taking the positive angle, cant see any other reason to have a commonwealth defence really, unless he has something lined up or trying to be lined up
He's not really a geordie though is he? Thought he was from darlo? Fight somewhere in Yorkshire yes but can't see it shifting many tickets in newcastle
Bit of a shame it means the HAll Mcdonnell fight is probably a fair few months off. I have liked the look of Mcdonnell recently and admired how he has risen through the ranks so quickly and they way he has done it but the more i see Hall the more i fancy him against Mcdonnell. Big fella long arms powerful Mcdonnell is a volume puncher so there will be plenty of opportunity for Hall to land on him as he has to move into range. I would probably fancy Hall to outmuscle Mcdonnell just at the moment but an intriguing fight nontheless
Have you seen some of the main events that have been accepted by Sky this year? In seriousness Sky need to bankroll Sat fight night having a set fee per show doesn't inspire promoters to put on better shows. Unless Sky up their fees or specifically call for a fight but offer more to make it happen then inevitably promoters will go for the option that makes them most money/least risk
Yes there are different levels for Commonwealth, Brit, Euro but there is a difference between Groves Degale Brit title and Hall Donnelly
McDonnell practically stated he didn't want the fight against Hall saying that it wasn't in his interest. why not drop the Commonwealth title and pick the good pay days with the EBU title.
