Victor Ortiz is being underestimated here and he probably welcomes that the pressure is on Berto. True that Andre picked another Light Welterweight, but this statement hardly tells the true story. Victor planned to move up anyway and maybe some of his troubles were related to weight drain, he was a big LWW and should feel more comfortable at 47. He's also one of the best 4-round fighters on the planet. That's right, just think about it! He almost sparked Maidana out in the 1st and then 2nd round, and Maidana needed instant payback and serious survival skills to make it to the 3rd to be able to work his way back. Same goes with Peterson, who unlike Vivian Harrios who was sparked good, was able to survive and that kinda discouraged Ortiz (who still won the fight on any sane person's scorecard).

And those first 4 rounds will be VERY tough for Berto to come through, he'll have to choose between instant hugging and ugly fighting or to answer fire with fire and try to get the early KO first, boxing his way through comfortably is hughly unlikely. Ortiz has explosive power both at distance and up close, and Berto's chin is far from being perfect, a short right hand on the inside and it could be over. Vic also has some really nice boxer-puncher skills, but mental issues usually kick in following the opening stages.

The way I see it Ortiz has at least 33% chance of getting the early KO, and still some to score a few KDs and get a decisions win, with Berto having some chances himself early, but more likely to win late or by decision, but he might never get to that point.

This is a fascinating fight and Ortiz is in a position where the only pressure on him is being placed by himself and comes in as an underdog in a must win type of fight. I believe he's very hungry, focused and fresh coming into this fight, and Berto might be the next to fall in the year of upsets, in explosive fashion.

I could not agree more with this statement. I dont know why the odds are 345+. Victor is more than capable of stopping Berto and out boxing him. Berto is not hard to hit at all. Ortiz is easily the biggest puncher Berto has ever faced. It wont be much of an upset to me I expect Ortiz to win and in Vintage Fashion.

Good post, Ortiz definitely has a chance to upset Berto here, he has all the tools needed to do so, but he is so fragile mentally... if he doesn't blast Berto out early then he will lose via late KO or wide UD

I haven't watched much of Berto, i find him disinteresting, but this has me very interested. I hope you are right about Ortiz making the jump well. Berto isn't a monster but he is a good enough size at the weight and very athletic, not sure if Ortiz will have the application to win over 12.

Ortiz has a good chance, but only within the first couple of rounds. After that, he Zab Judah's himself out of the fight.

I wonder if both will come out hesitant and try to feel each other out or if it will be bombs away from the start.

Either way, I don't see this fight going longer than 6 and hopefully we see some good back and forth action.

    Berto TKO - 70%
    Ortiz KO/TKO - 30%

Crazy odds on Ortiz by KO, particularly in the 1st 4. I'm gonna decide after the weigh-in. Not a bad idea at all, you just have to understand the risk.

I'd trade this upset and all upsets the next 3 years for Ishida upsetting Martinez. God how I would love that.

But yes, I actually vaguely favor Ortiz to win... He really IS talented and does pack a punch.

(Though I'll probably bet on Berto to win in Kirk's Championship:verysad)
