Is Ricky Hatton really as over rated as some like to claim?

Hatton retired in 2009, not 2008.

After taking a look at the list of title holders, there are many I hold in higher regard than Hatton, but only 4 I would bet the farm beat him head-to-head.

    Your argument is compelling.

Of this group of 25 champs i believe hatton would clearly be favored to defeat at least 18 of them. they would all of coarse present hatton with some tough competition and problems, but i believe hatton with his style and ability would overcome them.i think the 7 toughest fights for him of this group would be mayweather, cotto, tszyu, phillips, judah, bradley and witter.i put hatton at about #3 on this list right after mayweather and cotto.i think hatton would defeat witter by about 4 to 5 points after some early anxious moments.hatton might beat bradley by about 2 to 3 points, judah by about 4 to 5 points.i also think he beats phillips and tszyu in bouts a bit more tough than their real bouts with hatton.i also think hatton had a pretty good chance at cotto at 140lbs.So there you have it. Hatton is among the cream of the crop of 26 world champs between 98 and 08.he was not overrated but quite a fighter and champ and someone for the British and the fans around the world to be proud of.

Anyone who says Hatton is **** etc doesn't know **** themselves.

He was a good, tough pressure fighter who cut the ring off well with his foot work. He went to the body well and proved he had balls by stepping up against Mayweather and Pac instead of preserving his '0'.

    Underrated.

He lost to Gayweather at 147 where he should never even belong, and at 140 against Pacman.

Sp technically, he only lost once in the division that he is best.

    This...^

Hatton was a very good fighter and made a lot happen out of his limited talents and unhealthy lifestyle outside the ring. I really think had he been more dedicated outside the ring that he'd still be fighting today and beating guys like Bradley and Khan. Ricky is definitely top 5. He was fun as h*ll to watch and follow and will always be one of my favorite fighters. He's not overrated...and possibly is underrated these days...

I know you are a fan, I am too, but even now, why describe him as having limited talents? He won multiple belts, ducked noone, and kept winning while keeping it exciting for the fans. We normally complain about fighters who don't take a risk, yet because Hatton stepped up and thus went into retirement with two defeats on his record people often regard him as more limited than he was. There is a lot to being a pro fighter, you need talent in lots of departments, and there is no question that Hatton had a lot of talent. Mayweather is technically great, has shut out opponents, yet Hatton even put up a good display there for a good few rounds until Mayweather picked him apart, that was more resistance than some foes, including people like JMM. Hatton is in the top 1% of his profession, he only got found out at the highest level. He deserves better than to be described as having made a lot happen with limited talent. He was a very skilled fighter who won multiple belts and ducked noone, was undisputed number one in his division for years (which people like Calzaghe cannot claim, yet having retired with his 0 intact and facing a couple of big name old men late on he seems now to be regarded as a level above Hatton), took big fights overseas and only lost to ATG, P4P No.1 fighters. That takes talent as well as grit.

So if anything I think that he is underrated.

Sorry to rant, just think he does not get the right level of credit. I am a Calzaghe fan, too, but his achievements, for me, are a notch behind Hatton's yet he is rarely accused of having limited talent.

i think if he was anywhere near his prime he would lay a beat down on khan maidana alexander and kotelnik. Bradley seems to be a tough little ****er so i dont know about him. I guess this gives him a shout for one of the best junior welterweights this decade, definately top five

Hatton is rated fine. His style could give a lot of A class fighters hell as he already proved. The loss to Pacquiao doesn't define him at all, if anything it doesn't do him justice, he ran into an aggressive opponent who overpowered him early and took over, Hatton didn't even get a chance to do anything because Pacquiao just blew him out. Idiots that would say he's terrible based on that fight don't know anything about this sport, it's like saying Duran sucks because of the Hearns fight. You mention that to the idiots that say he's terrible and they'll go "Oh so you compare him to Duran?!?! ROOFLZ LOLZ", in the end cockroaches don't rate fighters that's why Hatton is surely making it to the HOF.
