Anyone who knows anything about Tyson knows he was 'shot to ****' by the age of 25, and probably earlier. Holyfield and Lewis got better with age, it's not that hard to understand.

As for Vitali v Tyson, Mike always had problems with fighters that were not afraid of him and could take his power. Vitali and his chin are all wrong for him imo, Vitali on points or late KO (and no I'm not a Klit fan).

I've always liked Tyson and he was exciting to watch. But people fail to realize that when he fought against tall, athletic, skilled boxers, he had major problems. I think it would be a great fight, similar to vitali vs. sanders, but I still think Vitali would win. Vitali has an iron chin and unlike Wlad, he's not afraid to brawl. I'd say Vitali would win via KO in the latter rounds.

 

For those people constantly making ignorant posts on "eras" this post rings true.
No 24 yr old is shot.
Vitali would not be intimidated by Tyson.
Prime Vitali has thudding heavy hands.
Tyson has a chance against anyone for an early KO, against Vitali this isnt a big chance.
Vitali doesnt drop rds, he would either win a decision or stop Tyson on accumulation.

 

Tyson was always a can crusher , Vitali would win by TKO or KO.

I got Tyson by decision. Probably scores a knockdown or two in the process.

In his prime, that low, fast head movement at the waist is what really made Tyson a beast.

 

Not sure what the sarcastic tone is for tbh. Tyson was already in a personal decline when he lost to Douglas in 1990 at the age of 23, and spent most of 1991 - 1995 in prison by which time he was 29 years old when released. Unless he had some pro fights in prison that we never heard about, the end of Tyson's prime was at the age of 23 at the very most (you can pick your own beginning). Any normal yardstick for a fighter's prime does not apply to Tyson because of his achievements at such a young age, the prison time and all the other crap he invited into his life that has been well documented. It could be argued that Tyson was still prime against Douglas and that Buster simply put in a performance that would have beaten anyone, but I doubt that many would seriously support that notion. Even then that would put the end of his prime at 23 max.

Most fighters get 'better' from their mid-20s onward (sometimes later), Tyson was an exception that got better from 19+, peaked around 21 and fizzled out by 23. Anything after that is a hollowed-out Tyson that was still better than most in the division, but nowhere near good enough nor motivated enough to beat the very best. I admit that saying he was 'shot to ****' at 25 is an exaggeration, but he was well past-prime by his own standards, and 30 year old Tyson was just a shadow of what he once was. 21 year old Tyson would have obliterated the version of Tyson that fought Lewis and Holyfield, and any version of himself from 1991 onwards. He never lost his chin or his power, but his boxing brain and will-to-win was 'shot to ****' well before he was jailed.

Peak shape Vitali is a level above anybody Tyson fought in the 80's. A 50-50 fight.

 

Vitali is a great fighter but, Tyson was more than 'a level' better than anyone Vitali has ever fought...His 'biggest win' is a loss to Lewis...

Almost forgot to disagree on your assesment too, see Tony Tucker, Larry Holmes, etc...

 

Tucker and that version of Holmes were nothing like as big punching, iron chinned and dangerous as peak Vitali. The guy is 40 y/o and still a great champion, give him some respect. I'd have no fears for him against Tyson. It would go to the cards as a Vitali UD or Tyson would be caught.

 

Tyson would beat the **** out of him , it wouldn't be that competitive. Ppl like to diss Tyson's comp, but most of those contenders/champions he fought were better skilled, and far more athletic than Vitali Klitchsko is.. and they make Vitali's comp look like dog****.

Tyson would beat the crap out of him round by round, and the fight would get stopped at some point. Vitali has no skills, he's a slow, lumbering, awkward fighter who leaves his chin wide open. The only reason he wins fights is because of his size and the fact that his opponents are fat, have zero atheltic ability and can't throw a punch to save their lives.
