They have about equal chins i'd say, heart goes to Bowe easily (inside the ring, that is), power to Liston, size to Bowe (5 inch height advantage and roughly 25 pounds of weight, reach to Liston but Bowe is much taller), speed to Bowe, defence to Liston and stamina to Bowe.

How do you see this one unfolding?

A Sonny fest today (and outside as well- in these parts) :good

On to the fight: I think Liston stops him late on. Bowe's leaky defensive would likely cost him at some stage against most of the all-time elite HW punchers (Tyson, Liston, Lewis, Louis and Foreman etc).

Bowe would have his moments and certainly wouldn't be outclassed, however Liston has the measure of him skill wise and although we'll never fully know, ATG punching power could well have been Bowe's kryptonite. :bbb

Liston would crumple Bowe in 2 or 3, much like he did Williams. Not saying that Bowe and Williams are very similar as fighters, but the result would be the same.

I think its quite close. both guys made names beating up on smaller guys.

did liston beat a big heavyweight as good as bowe? valdes and bethea were a lower level but simular in size but shop worn and losing by the time liston got them. summerlin was big enough and later on was a fair enough fighter. williams and dejohn never made the grade.

even though he had the weight advantage bowe still did beat a great unbeaten fighter in a tough fight. Liston still hit way harder than golota and herbie hide though..and had beter stamina.

liston maybe has a slight edge here.

maybe liston would find bowe easy to hit once bowe slips into a lazy mode but bowe would not quit, hed come right back at liston. remember neither is beating up on a 190 heavyweight here. I think liston would find bowe a handful.

If bowe had more solid wins in his actual career I could easily make quite a case for him agaisnt liston though.. since he didnt Im sitting on the fence. Its a 50-50 pickem, no easy win for either.

Liston would beat him down and out in 7 or 8. Different class of fighters here.

I think Bowe's size would actually work against him. Sonny would keep him on the outside with that telephone pole jab and 84 inch reach.

When Bowe came inside, even there Sonny would have something for him, but was also strong enough to clinch and hold on to avoid anything big that Bowe had in return.

To me Liston is one of the best H2H heavies in modern history.

    Liston TKO5 Bowe

Holyfield had a solid jab and was outboxing Bowe for parts of the second fight. Liston wouldn't be as much on his toes but he could find Bowe with the jab and it's not smart to go to war with Liston while having leaky defense. I see Bowe trying to go for the kill and paying for it. Liston was just the better boxer-type and I think it would show in this fantasy matchup.

IMO, prime Bowe '91-'92 and early 1993 waxes Liston from 1959 to 1961 in a time machine, but on the whole, I think Liston was the better fighter with longevity then what Bowe's career provided...

Christ, Bowe was really only a pro for 7 lousy years before being all used up... Liston fought for a solid 15 years as a pro...

Bowe's comeback fights of 2004 and onward haven't meant jack**** on a paper plate....

Liston's 1970 KO over Wepner holds merit...

  13. Sonny Liston would win by knockout because you know he beat the 160 pound Floyd Patterson. Yep beating a glass chin middleweight if you are a older fighter means alot. Liston was amazing at beating people his size, Wait the only guy his size was Cleveland Williams and he was never anything special.

    Bowe by Ko

That's a great matchup, as good as bowe could be, I'd go with Liston, old school heart, old school work ethic. Bowe would come out strong, only to realize he's in way over his head, sonny was brutal. I think sonnys jab would open bowe up for rights and combos for as long as it lasted
