No ****ing way is it comparable to Tyson-Holmes.

Holmes posted very good results post Tyson, Ali was like a dead man walking in the Holmes debacle.

    Close to zero.

    That is stupid.

Holmes does not (and shout not) get lots of credit for his victory over Ali.

Tyson should get a good amount of credit for his win over Holmes. Holmes just lost two very hotly disputed decisions (as his only losses). He basically just came off a 48 fight unbeaten streak and 20 successful defenses of the Heavyweight crown.

I say that's a MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better fighter than Ali was at that point.

Tyson deserves A LOT of credit for beating Holmes.

FACT = PEOPLE JUST DON'T GIVE HIM CREDIT FOR THE VERY FACT THAT HE IS MIKE TYSON - A HATED ATHLETE.

Holmes deserves no credit at all.

Ali that foguht Holmes was thr worst pound for pound fighter I have ever seen.

Does anyone think he could have beaten any heavyweight ever at that point.

Holmes deserves credit for being a fighter and getting the job done, nothing else. This fight was a no win situation fight for him because despite Ali being well past his best days, lots of people still believed that Ali would still pull off a win like he did against George in Zaire.

Either way Holmes will always be criticized for this fight. He beats Ali which he did, people say he beat an old man that had no business in the ring. He loses to Ali, people start saying that's he's just hype. Another Ali victim for the ages.

Holmes was rusty as hell when he fought Tyson, and ill prepared. He was just as daft taking that fight as Ali was in taking his own fight with Holmes. But no,Holmes was n't shot.

hang on a moment, are we not all being far too wise after the event here? I think both holmes and ali at least deserved to be taken seriously going into both fights with younger champions. so both holmes and tyson deserve the credit for beating respected chalengers going into both sad fights regardless of the easy results.

we all know ali was entirely shot because we saw what hapened. going into that fight ali was a retired champion coming back from a win, exactly as joe louis had done when he took on ezzard charles. Holmes lost his last fight and was just as inactive.

unlike holmes against tyson, ali was the last undisputed champion, holmes had not yet faced leon spinks so ali, the champion everyone was saying holmes could not live up to was a man to beat. an itch to scratch.

Nobody could forecast ali would have been so bad. Nobody knew before that when ali came in so light (with dyed hair) that it was not down to serious training but diet pills or whatever other illegal stuff his personal doctor gave him. People just thought, "yes, Ali had been a tired champion but hes had a two years rest and is in shape." naturaly muhammad (like holmes against tyson) had no warm up fights but ali still had angie dundee in the corner so im sure he was taken seriously going into it.

I think as a "name" holmes needed ali on his record as much as tyson needed him on his record if only just to pass the torch. He might not deserve actual credit but he deserves the closure that came with having that name on his record as much as tyson later did when he squashed old holmes.

How much credit did tyson deserve for beating holmes? like the younger holmes he was beating up on a guy with credentials going into that fight but ultimatly 2 years too rusty to fight at that level. a gimmie with a name - but nobody knew goin in!

Dude, he'd gone 1-1 with Neon Leon prior.

He was DONE. Only reason he was respected was cause his name is Muhammad Ali. He retired to kudos after he beat Spinks for his title back, man.

Holmes came out of retirement for Tyson. Not a shot fighter, but not a very prepared one. Good win, not a great one. But the Holmes-Ali fight is a non win. Lets take a shot, old, semi-retired fighter overdosed on thyroid medication and haul him to the ring so he can make us some money.

Holmes fought Tyson back. Ali threw almost no punches at all vs. Holmes. He was done, a shell.

come on, berbick was still a real handfull at that time and ali gave him a close fight AFTER the holmes pounding.

no average joe is going to whip the balls off berbick unless they are as good as a prime tyson..

the thyroid story came out in the 1990s with thomas hauser's book. It was a sound pounding - ali did not perform, I agree, but that is ali's fault not holmes's.

Holmes was equaly as stupid and greedy taking on tyson with no warm up fights.

If they get credit for those wins, we need to start giving Lennox Lewis more credit for dominating Mike Tyson and start giving Tarver and Johnson and Calzaghe and Green and Hopkins(whew theres alot of them now) more credit for putting the beats on Roy Jones.

there you go then its prety equal. sometimes the respect and aura prevents the in form fighter from taking care of business like hagler v duran, barkley v duran, berbick v ali, charles v louis, moorer v foreman...

ok it is not beating the real fighter but credit them for not flunking.

Hey man, if you are gonna be consistent, power to you. I dont agree with that standard, but as long as it applies to everybody, I suppose its fair. And it is true, I suppose, that sometimes a great shot fighter can have a great fight, and you deserve a smidgen of credit for not allowing that to happen to you(And when the opponent is shot, its generally more the other guys fault than the great fighters when they have one last great night).
