Hi, Some persons claim that body building is necessary for boxer but i am not satisfied with this statement, i don't know whats the reality.. Los Angeles Fitness Trainer
The reality is: Bodybuilding training is **** for boxing, it will give you large muscles which are not strong for their size which means they will put you up weight classes while not increasing your power. They will also mean your body needs more oxygen for boxing activities so you will gas out more quickly. Resistance training is useful in boxing, but not bodybuilding training.
You're getting bodybuilding training confused with strength-training. I don't think anyone ever has tried to argue that bodybuilding training is useful for boxing
Body building is used for developing muscle size over anything else for asthetic physique. In boxing you are to keep weight to a minimum and like before said, muscle size = maintenance and demands. Strength training is a more boxing focused study than trying to build a asthetic physique
Ask anyone with boxing sense or anyone who saw Larry Olubamiwo versus John McDermott and you will find otherwise.
Crap. running skipping rope Pullups/chinups push ups squats/lunges dips situps/crunches/leg lifts jumping jacks 8 count body builders/squat thrusts I just can't see how lifting weights other than moderately helps a Boxer.
Thats pretty much the best standard workout for a boxer to do to get started. Builds resistance and strength which is what a boxer needs. They need to be able to withstand punches and develop power. Bodybuilding just scalps your body so you look good.
strength training is beneficial but 'bodybuilding' is actually counterproductive. It would add also a weight but only slightly increase your strength. Technique and experience are far more important than improving your strength unless you compete at a high level IMO.
I'm not sure, but imagine how good we can all look at the end of punches with well developed triceps and shoulders. You got to do the arnold presses and skull crushers. Personally, when my vascularity and definition improves, so does my ability to throw punches. In addition, imagine how much better that you can turn on your punches once that "diamond shape" is achieved with the calve muscles. Direct correlation! My overall power improves greatly when I add 10 or so lbs on the donkey calve raise machine. Also, all of your power comes from your forearms when you turn over the punches so it is important to develop the upper part of the forearms. Use exercises such as the wrist roller, forearm curls or shake weight.
