Nick Diaz done with MMA has signed to fight Fernando Vargas!!!

There's no need to speculate on Mayorga, Martinez, Pavlik etc.

Him even talking such nonsense is just hype to sell the Vargas fight. Actually he might believe it, but for all practical purposes treat it as hype because nothing will come of it.

We have nothing to go on as far as his actual realistic h2h ability until we get to see his current form in a boxing ring.

If he handles Vargas easily and knocks him out, then we can start tossing him in with the lions.

If he struggles or loses, then it's just a one-off circus act and not worth continuing to even talk about.

 

This guy would get his ass handed to him in a boxing ring. I hope this guy does fight Vargas.

He's slow as **** and has no power. I've seen the way he fights and it's by wearing his opponent down with a bunch of arm punches. That would not work against Mayorga or even Vargas

 

He hasnt head movement and fights very linear.Dont have uppercuts and his hooks are pure ****.Plus pillow hands.Good Luck in your career Nick, you will need it.

^ this, if Nick's manager is true about signing on to fight Fernado Vargas, awesome. Much more interesting than a fat out of shape Toney trying to fight MMA.

whether or not Nick gets creamed in the boxing ring remains to be seen, but at least he's stepping up to the plate.

**have to wonder though since Diaz is a Strikeforce fighter (which the UFC now owns) would Showtime have anything to do with the distribution of that Vargas-Diaz fight? Because Strikeforce is shown on Showtime.

 

SF has a stipulation in his contract allowing him one boxing match per year. I'm 99% sure it would be on Showtime, for a couple of reasons: SF would want to keep Diaz branded as a Showtime fighter and cross-promote his competition in both sports all on the same network. Plus, Vargas' most recent working relationship was with Showtime (his farewell bout with Mayorga was the last Showtime PPV for several years before Cotto-Mayorga).

 

I'm not saying he's going to be the next Floyd Jr. or Manny P.. but he's got decent skills and talent. What trumps everything for me is that he's simply a natrual fighter...meaning he has that fighters mentality to help him overcome obstacles..

He's got his work cut out for him without a doubt. Beating Vargas or Lacy isn't even a given but those cats are on their way out while Diaz is prime. He just has a learning curve to handle....if he sticks with Boxing I feel he can transition and make waves. Again...he'll have to be matched well as he progresses in boxing if he wants to have some kind of longevity.

He won't be that slow in boxing. With MMA those small gloves do little to protect the hand...so you don't see guys putting that grease on their shots b/c #1...it's could damage the hand....#2....it's a lot more dangerous in MMA to miss and be out of position..and #3...let's face it...you can do more damage with smaller gloves which means you don't need to tee off with every shot.

 

Oh dear, hes seriously delusional if he thinks he's gonna be something in boxing. His form is awful, horrible, just look at the guys elbows and just how much he squares up.

I'd fight him in the boxing ring.
