Alex Leapai (22.3.3 17KO) and his team have flown the coup to Jakarta, challenging Peter Okello (20.5.0 18KO) for the IBF Australasian heavyweight title this Sunday. This is the first time Alex will contend in Indonesia and the second time fighting out of Australia, the other fight was in New Zealand on Sept 2008 winning a fifth round KO over Alipate Liava's. Alex record stands at twenty eight fights with his last four fights against boxers flown in from the states, all suffering a loss to Alex's solid combination of heavy fisted blows. Peter Okello is a great opponent for Alex's next step in the world of heavyweights, Okello has victories over Colin Wilson, Bob Mirovic and Lawrence Tausua being his last fight in May 2010, winning by a TKO in round six of six. An international world contender Oleg Maskaev went twelve rounds with Peter Okello in Russia Dec 2006 for the WBC heavyweight title winning the fight by a unanimous decision. Alex has got a great combination of powerful punches from both hands with a clubbing overhand right, decent defence and the determination to succeed in the world arena of heavyweights. It is a great step in the right direction, winning this fight will be a nail in the coffin for team Leapai. The main event is Chris John (44.0.2 22KO) v Daud Yordan (27.1.0 21KO) for the WBA super world featherweight title. Chris John fights out of Harry's gym in Balcatta, WA, he istrained by Craig Christian who has helped guide Chris to forty four victories and two draws.
