Juanma is the absolute real deal. Best puerto rican boxer ever ?

He's not even the best current PR fighter. Hell, he's not even number 2.

 

Watching the Rafa fight made me think JuanMa is a KO waiting to happen. He gets hit way too often and if he's up against the likes of Donaire and if Donaire can carry his power to Featherweight JuanMa will be in a whole lot of trouble. Rafa hit him with a counter left-hook a lot of times... Can you imagine if that was Nonito's left counter hitting him? In the words of Mayweather Sr's mouth, Goodnight :good

 

Yea, I believe he is the real deal; no not the best fighter out of the great boricua nation, not even close. I like his style, it's even more flawed than Gamboa's, but as inconsistent as Juanma is, when he does bring his A game, he's close to unstoppable. I think he was winning almost every round against a faded legend like Rafa, but Juanma was ready to get KO'd somewhere in the middle of the fight and then got saved by the ref. If applies pressure all night on Gamboa, not thinking too much of a KO, but like Salido did with Gamboa, I can see Juanma winning a close decision. Any other way Gamboa is too far superior to Juanma. As far as greatness goes, Juanma has the better resume with better scalps, but neither aside from a faded Rafa, a faded Solis, and one dimensional Deleon between the 2 of them have really faced an elite fighter. Fighting each other will finally answer how good they really are. IMO I think Gomez was the best, Benitez second, and Trinidad third. Juanma needs to face a p4p fighter at least to be head and shoulders with those greats.

 

Have you heard about Wilfred Benitez, Carlos Ortiz and Felix Trinidad?!

 

No, I don't think any Rican fighter of current times will ever get on Ortiz', Gomez', or Benitez' level. Not even on Trinidad's or Cotto's. Cotto is the last of the Rican greats until Lopez sharpens as a fighter and goes on to beat big names but until then, Cotto is the last Rican great. He can avoid mistakes his predecessors have made such as moving to weights he shouldn't be at(like Trinidad at MW & Gomez past BW) and fight on too long(Calderon to an extent, Benitez, and Trinidad). Lets make the most of JML as he is the only big young PR star now. I never saw big potential in him but hopefully he proves me wrong. Exciting fighter that may be too eager to get his opponents out of there. He hasn't passed Calderon or Cotto yet TBH.

 

He has the makings of being great, but lets see if he takes advantage of all his talents and strive to improve overall technique. I personally think he will knock Gamboa out cause Gamboa is highly overrated as are most cuban amateurs, so it will be interesting to see him against someone else with a higher caliber. He should be happy Nonito Donaire does not share the same weight class though.

 

i think Ever is a little bit too much, IMO the best ever are Ortiz, Gomez, Benitez, Trinidad, and so on... he has to accomplish alooot more to be close to those fighters, my recent fav is cotto, also like how quiet he is, lets his hands talk and doesn't ever have anything bad to say against his opponents. i see overconfidence as a weakness... but he would have to do much more than beat gamboa to be above there, and he's not going to do this with his recent performances, he would have to improove his defense and movement alot more, i believe you can improove this with time but i think most of it has to be natural more than anything else like Gomez, and Benitez...

 

just check these skills at 18 years old, IMO its more natural then anything else, although hardwork could develop lacking skills no doubt...

Comments like these show he's so, so far away from that. HOWEVER, I think he is an excellent fighter and he's had a terrific career, even if he gets dethroned tomorrow. He's beaten several world champions, been a titlist in two weight classes, remained undefeated while doing it in numerous title fights. Excellent fighter with big, big power. The knockout ratio he has after facing the guys he's faced is huge. Salido is no pushover but if he wins decisively it will not even put him in the class of the best ever PR guys. If he did that and unified with Gamboa, he'd have a good chance at the HOF at some point though. If it's as huge a fight as Booby wants it to be and they both make it there undefeated. I think he's got a lot of star quality to him.

 

He has a long way to go yet until he can be compared to the likes of Wilfredo Gomez and Tito Trinidad.

He's on the right track but he needs to improve his defence as he moves up in weight. Otherwise I see the wheels coming off.

If he's smart he will make Gamboa move up to 130 lbs for the fight. The extra weight because of his big frame could work to his advantage. At 126 lbs I think Gamboa will be to much.
