I'm thinking in this mythical match-up of titans that Young, who is clearly impossible to hit, wins this over the GREAT Ossie Ocasio (man amongst men) by a clean slate 10 rounds to naught.

He is the slickest fighter to ever don the gloves.

    Respond.

They did fight but Young was already kind of past it and Ocasio was in his prime.... At his best Young was the better figther with far better wins. Ocasio was one of the most boring titlist ive ever seen, but he was a good boxer and a top 5 to 8 Cruiser of all time.

The Young of just one year earlier would shut 'Jaws' out.

In seven months Young went from losing a split decision to Ken Norton for a version of the Heavyweight tilte ,to losing a split dec to eleven fight Ocasio,he was born in the same year ,and the same month as me ,which makes him 29 years old when he lost to Ocasio.
Why this man elicites such:smh on here is beyond me .:huh
Robbed in fights? He had more chances to make it than any one I can think of, he was a nearly man because he did not have a winners mind set.
What a god awful champion he would have made.:patsch

When did Jimmy Young become such a polarizing figure?

The Jimmy Young that """Lost""" to Ken Norton would have easily beaten Ocasio. Using this fight with a past it Young to bolster hating on him won't work.

There was seven months between those two fights, during which time ,according to you,Young went from being rated no 2 in the world ,to being past it.All at the age of 29 . :-(

This guy gets more slack than a *****'s drawers.:patsch

These fights just show the problems with Young's mentality. There was a very small line between him being brilliant and him being another journeyman. He was a survival artist, yes, but at his best he survived to win, not to merely last the distance. Young was not washed up, he simply did not train hard enough or fight hard enough to win.

He shouldn't be passed off as merely a spoiler though, the man had legitimate skills and was about as smart as anybody who fought in the ring.

He had skill allright, I saw him make a fool out of Britsh Champ John L Gardner, what he did not have was a Champions mentality,in short he was not a , " winner."

Young was not past it ... Young was at the height of his career .. he just fought Norton in a title elimination bout and even though he was edged he was highly competitive and in the title picture with another title shot right there ... then he came in flabby and unmotivated, a common theme with Jimmy, and got updset by Ossie ,,, then they had a rematch where Young trained and he lost again. Straight up, Young was better at making slow, big punchers look bad than he was at winning against the best fighters in the world ,, he was a cutie, hard to look good against but not great in his own right ...

Jimmy Young came in good shape for the rematch but wow was it boring. Neither did anything significant really and Occassio had a bit of flurries but not enough action to dictate the fight. Should've been a draw. I didn't see the first fight though I know Young was disinterested and out of shape.
