Khan v Mccloskey / Ortiz v Berto/Lopez v Salido Rbr thread..

Do you not think there was a massive difference in how McCloskey approached that fight with Lynes opposed to this fight with Khan. He was 100% focused tonight on only not getting hit, making sure he wasn't getting tagged cleanly. If McCloskey had any attacking intent whatsoever he would have opened himself up to Khan much more and consequently be tagged far more.

Exactly...Colin Lynes. 1 week or not, it was Colin Lynes.

Tonight was Amir Khan, supposed to be a guy heading for p4p stardom. In 6 rounds he didn't produce any quality work. Infact thats pretty much a recurring theme, he couldn't keep Maidana honest except for one admittedly peachy bodyshot. No variation to break Kotelnik's guard down. Took a long time to get to Malignaggi and only really started to time punches correctly when Malignaggi was dieing on his arse. Ricky Hatton was getting through much earlier. This is nothing new infact, Khan struggles to produce quality punching. Tonight was the biggest showcase of that. He had a guy standing infront of him with his hands down not punching back.

 

purely based on experience and seasoning. 3 years on, 5-6 more 12 round fights.

i dont see anyone saying khan looked good tonight and im certainly not. i dont get what point your trying to make?

 

Read below. I take on board 1 week/McCloskey's mindset, but the fact is...Colin Lynes/Amir Khan. Think about that and the standards we're supposed to be holding this guy by. In 6 rounds he produced **** that was impressive at all. Him and McCloskey had the same prep time, the same desire to do well in this fight, it was a level playing field for what is supposed to be a top level fighter and he still couldn't produce anything of note. I don't see how he's going to keep Tim Bradley honest keeping that in mind.

 

My point was Amir Khan was shite tonight and yours was that McCloskey didn't do anything. My point was that McCloskey did as much as he could do keeping in mind what we expected him to do anyway and his ability, and that Khan is held to a higher expectation for obvious reasons. Not difficult to follow Rob.

 

theres a way to beat Amir Khan but its not using a **** reaction based defence to try and tire him out and counter punch him with a slow winging hook in the later rounds.

McCloskey reminds me of the kids you see at amatuer shows that have watch to much Naz on youtube.

For a **** reaction based defence he negated Khan's **** attacks pretty well. They made a good pair.

You're saying his defence was **** and all, but thats really the harshest criticism you can make of Khan nevermind McCloskey! Yes McC was very negative tonight but he was still there to be hit. It wasn't exactly Arthur Abraham/ Andriy Kotelnik with the ear muffs on. He was stood right infront of Khan with his heels seemingly glued to the canvas with his hands down.

 

I'm really hping for something, ANYTHING from the HBO and Showtime card tonight. We deserve something decent right?

Yeah, I won't hold my breath on that but I have a feeling Berto vs Ortiz could be decent

 

McCloskey has that style that when it comes off, like with Naz and Maravilla, it looks awesome and when it doesn't you stink out the place like Witter.

 

Not really Rob, every post I've made has been explaining why Khan was **** tonight.

The first or second post I made in reply to you also explained why I'm critical and thats because of the expectations for these two at the start of the fight. Nothing in the fight changed those expectations, McCloskey showed nothing extraordinary to change them and make me say 'oh well, Khan wasn't so good but that was because McCloskey was better than expected'.

It's not my bad if you have reading difficulties. We ain't been doing quantum physics here, a simple reading of how and why Amir was crap and the context behind the critique. :blurp

Again I don't get your point. I have never disagreed with anything you have said other than McCloskey not improving.

Amir was ****, McCloskey was shitter, the ref was **** but he just stopped us from seeing another 6 rounds of crap. what else is there to say??
