WTF Khan was in worse trouble than Lopez was (video)

When Khan was trying to survive Maidana's onslaught he was in worse trouble than Lopez was, he had more then a few seconds of not throwing any punches against Maidana and he still got the benefit of the doubt, all champions should get the benefit of the doubt. I know some of you guys will ask when is it a good stoppage then, well If they guy stops throwing in a significant amount of time, or if the guy gets hit with a big punch that leaves his chin up exposed.


Last night what would of happened if the stopped the berto and Ortiz fight because Berto looked like he had ortiz done in the corner, but Ortiz was able to land the hook and change the momentum of the fight.

The days of great fights that Corrales, and Gatti gave us are over.

Still, there wouldnt have been many complaints if the ref had stopped the khan fight in the tenth imo

 

I would say that was a little premature. He was still throwing and using movement, too bad. Congrats to Solido all the same.

 

The ref did the right of stopping the fight (Lopez Salido) to prevent further injury on the fighter. It's a judgment call and I have to respect his decision.

Last nights fight proved that Khan was lucky the fight wasn't stopped in the 10th round as some refs clearly would have stopped the fight. The Khan decision was a good call though because he actually went on to survive the last 2 rounds somehow.

 

Lopez to me looked done. Just look how he swings his punches. And contrast it with Salido's controlled assault. I think the referee could have stopped it earlier than he did. Lopez will have to take a hard look at himself. The fact that he used to be able to slug it out with smaller opposition means nothing now when he's facing the bigger guys.

 

As much as Khan's stock fell quite low in my books because of his performance and all the politics that now dominates his camp, I made a thread after the Maidana fight to see if people thought the fight should have been stopped in the 10th and the overwhelming answer was NO, because Khan was doing something every boxer should instinctively do:

1. Move around and not keep taking punches
2. Try to clinch as much as possible
3. Try to fight back (which he did try to do)
4. Put your hands up every 10 or so seconds when you're being hit.

Watch any of Khan's fights after Roach. Whenever he gets hit by a good punch, he instinctively puts his hands up immediately after, telling the ref that he's lucid and knows was going on.

Now watch the Juanma fight AND the Katsidis/Marquez fight, and you'll see they were both doing none of the above, and just taking punches straight to the mantle, and you'll see why the fight was stopped.

 

Lopez looked much worse.

the hands up thing doesnt mean **** its just a taunt, refs are not supposed to take **** like that into consideration when making judgements.

lopez was obviously ok to continue, if not the ref should have let salido atleast ko him.

 

Yeah the ref could have let Lopez take a few more flush shots to the face until he went down, but it ain't the ref's fault Lopez was tagged, then stumbled face first into the corner. Lopez's legs were gone, yeah he was throwing back, but his brain was in that part of town where the men wear purses. Lopez was really going to take a beating.

 

I agree, Khan was in bigger trouble, premature stoppage.

 

i have 2 disagree wit u on this 1,..he does not put his arms up to show the ref hes lucid,because then he would only have 2 do that when hes taking punishment,like in the 10th round of the madaina fight,and he didnt do it that round.
he got that from manny pacman,basiclly a copy cat,.but
they do that to try to show the crowd and viewers that there where not affected by the punch,.but in turn they let us REAL boxing fans see they where hit significantly

 

awful job by the referee.

 

Khan was moving around really well though, great lateral movement.

Which shows he still was focused

Lopez had his guard down and was taking shot after shot.
