Just seen the official mma junkie poll and Penn dominated the vote !! Thoughts ................ :good
I can't see Gracie wanting to go down to welterweight - he wouldn't even do that for the Hughes fight. Maia makes the most sense out of the middleweights - Maia wouldn't knock Gracie out and a submission could be a cool passing of the torch moment.
? Royce is fighting at 185lbs so none of them. Maybe Ed Herman, Tom Lawlor or Kendall Grove? Lynchburg
Ahhh I was assuming a catchweight like the Hughes fight, 175 if memory serves. Dont see him lasting long in a 185 bout with anyone with decent striking
Maia would choke Royce unconscious, bad fight don't want the BJJ legend to get schooled at BJJ, as I am sure Royce would actively grapple with Maia and not just be in survival mode on the ground.
Na Serra would never fight Royce just way too much respect. Renzo is Serra's mentor and he would never betray him like that. I train underneath a Renzo Blackbelt and im always hearing how much the Gracie family looks down on those who train with a Gracie then decide to fight a family member. I have a DVD its documentary on Renzo and it talks alot about when he was fighting BJ. Everyone was disgusted that BJ would take that fight after training many years with Ralph Gracie. My vote for a fight would be for Royce to fight a guy like Nate Quarry. A well known fighter but someone who Royce would have a strong chance to choke out and go out with a win in Rio.
Exactly what i was thinking right now. Since penn fight has been postponed i would have love to see penn vs royce gracie but penn got injured. How bout this checke checke checke outtttttttt UFC signs Kazushi Sakuraba for one more fight What's better than the gracie hunter vs the godfather of mma royce gracie fight for one last time.
Don't be silly - Gracie is not going to be competitive against anybody currently under UFC contract. The man is old and limited. You put him against a no-name fighter you're just setting him up for embrassement when he losses. Better to put him up against someone like Maia where there's no shame in him loses and you perhaps make a star by having him be the first to submit the great Jiu-Jitsu master (okay Sakuraba kinda did it but shhhhhh).
Actually you know who would be fun? Frank Shamrock. Both roughly the same size and Frank was the next dominant grappler after Gracie left the UFC. There's also the dimension of "I'm going to do what my brother could never do - beat Royce Gracie". The UFC would never ever do it but its probably the legends fight that would be least sad.
Usually only brasilians have that ***gy attitude. Like Randy says, its s sport, I'd fight my best friend.
