Sergio's fans do not seem to be any more confident than Sergio is. If they were, they would not have so many objections to a rematch.

Is there a better fight out there for Martinez that will be available this fall?

Is there an opponent out there somewhere who actually wants to fight Martinez this fall who would bring more money to the table?

Is there something Martinez could do this fall that would do more for his legacy than moving up 6 pounds, and beating a healthy, focused and determined, Kelly Pavlik?

First of all, Pavlik sucks and doesn't deserve another shot at Martinez. He got absolutely destroyed in their first match so why would he get a rematch? A rematch happens when the fight was competitive.

Second, 166 is not even a weight class. So you're saying Martinez should give Pavlik the advantage with this ******ed catchweight even though Pavlik is the loser and has no bargaining chips on the table.

Face it, man. Pavlik sucks balls and he's done for good. If he moves up to 168, he gets wrecked easily. He moves down to 160, he gets his face bloodied up by Martinez again. The guy is too basic and is not on the championship level.

LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT. Let's just fast forward to after may 7. Assuming pavlik wins his come back fight. Are you telling me that pavlik doesn't deserve a rematch ?

Last time i check SERGIO MARTINEZ was coming off A DRAW AND A LOSS before he got a shot at pavlik but pavlik doesn't deserves a rematch?:-(

In what world does the loser get to dictate the terms of a rematch?

Next time you watch a Pavlik fight try and watch it while sober, and before you hit the crack pipe. Your posts might be a bit less ridiculous if you take my advise.

I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch since the first was a pretty decent fight. That being said, I don't think Pavlik should be fighting at middleweight anymore, he was clearly killing himself to make 160. A more up to 168 would be best for Pavlik as it could be a more comfortable weight and there is money to make in that division if he picks his fights well.

Pavlik was abusing Martinez until the cut. If he had a cut man that wasn't mentally ******ed, he would have won the fight going away, probably by KO. Martinez never once hurt Pavlik. Go back to the tape.

What is the difference between Martinez(MW champ after his second fight there) calling out a WW and Pavlik (a SMW) calling out a natural Jr MW?
And what's with the 166 cathweight? I remember Pavlik wanting a fight with Bute at 166; it's this the Pavlik division?
In recent years MW's going at SMW failed badly (see Miranda, Taylor, Abraham); if Martinez decides to go up isn't more logical he'll fight the likes of Ward, Bute, Froch?
Didn't Pavlik had a rematch clause?
And isn't HBO deciding Martinez's opponents?
I don't understand why Pavlik is insisting on Martinez when the SMW division is full of opportunities

Because booradley rates Pavlik's spunk higher than beer and he doesn't want to accept that his SMW idol got outclassed by a LMW so he's managed to convince himself Martinez is some massive middleweight who should be challenging Bute and Froch.

Exactly! Pavlik got outclassed at the beginning of the fight but adjusted and started to really take over. By the end he looked exhausted and was cut bad and Martinez clearly won the fight, but Pavlik put on a good show and with his head on straight and at a more comfortable weight he could easily beat Martinez. It'd be Martienz biggest payday too, as you've noted. Holy **** are the Pavlik haters bad.

The answers rather simple, martinez fights at 160 or less, pavlik fights at 166+, the real money fights for maravilla are below 160. And he did beat pav 1st time to be fair. It's probably not in the sergio's top 5 desirable fights. may, pac, cotto, jcc jnr and canelo would be more attractive money makers. Sergio would win a rematch imo but it wouldn't be easy and the other fights are more attractive to him.

A focused and dedicated to boxing Pavlik could indeed make this an interesting bout. A lot of assholes on here seem to discount that, when he had his situation together, Pavlik was a pretty tough out-- stiff beard, hard hitter, willing to mix-it-up.

Indeed, with his career in turmoil and his personal life in the throes of abject catastrophe, he still managed to destroy Marco Rubio who, incidentally, just dispatched one of the heretofore most celebrated 160lbs prospects on the planet.

Given what Martinez enters the ring at, none of these fights you mention are going to be attractive to anyone but Sergio in any of these pairings. I don't see any of them happening. DiBella does a crap job in promoting and if Sergio wants a money fight, it will be who HBO picks for him. NONE of those guys you mention need Martinez for their careers and I don't see any of them wanting the fight.

Martinez enters the ring at 170 pounds: same as Taylor, Miranda, Abraham, and Pavlik. Were those guys "small" middleweights?

Sergio's promoter and adviser have both said Martinez is comfortable, feels better, and is healthier and stronger at the higher weight.

If Martinez fought a healthy, focused and determined Pavlik at 166, Sergio would get knocked out. He knows it and diBella knows it.

However, Pavlik moved up and fought a rematch because Jermain Taylor wanted him to. Pavlik is not asking Martinez to do anything he hasn't already done himself.
