I'm not talking ****. I'm just wondering why he doesn't speak English in the corner. Ortiz is Mexican American. His brother Robert is fluent in English. Perhaps I'm missing something here?
He is probably trying to pretend so people would look at him as a real Mexican rather than a Mexican American so he won't get the bad rep that Oscar is getting. Mexican Americans just doesn't have that same Mexican legitimacy to them. Just compare Morales to Rios or Barrera to Vargas. There is something not fully Mexicans about the Mex-Am.
They probably both speak spanish to each other all the time. Just because they both know english doesnt mean they have to talk english to each other.
He does. In fact he wasn't talking Mexican when he complained to the ref when Ortiz got a point deduction :good
Yeah.........I think it because they are AMERICANSatsch Ortiz is from Kansas:hi: He loves his country....America:good
FACT_ No matter how great a Mexican-American fighter is.. Mexican nationals will never admire a great Mex/amer fighter the way they do their countreyman.. Its always been like that and always will.. But Mex-americans wil love and back a great fighter from Mexico Speaking Spanish in the corner isnt gonna change that fact to fans in Mexico...... For the most part Mexican American fans could really care less what hes speaking in his corner... Mexican American fans have always been hot and cold with Oscar...Its either love or hate...ODLH is my 2nd favorite fighter of all time,, but yet a few my uncles hate him with a passion ... Even got to the pont that at every OSscar fight they would gang up on me and rag me for being an Oscar fan.. As for the oomen mostly all love him.. Unfortunately lot of my fellow chicanos are nit pickers and haters on other succesful famous latinos. ive seen with other famous entertainers and the reasons are always lame or weak.... As for who hes trying to impress or win over.. I guess it depends who your trying to win over.. % wise id say more whites like ODLH than Mexicans. When boxing comes up arund whites the first name i a.lways here is Delahoya and usually its good stuff..... With Mex its they are usually under the influence of haterade or regard him as a boxing ICon. Now on to Vargas most Mexicans i know liked him, especially homies or tought guys types... He has the sterotypical chicano thug attitude.... Then the more straight ones though he was a punk and cheered when ODLH beat him.... ID say Vargas was somewhat popular in Mexico with the boxing fans... But never a crossover or known to the non fan.. ... OScar did put that wasnt until way later in his careerand that was through commercials, ads, marketing etc etc. But it took years for Mexican fans to forgive him for beating ChaveZ he is respected by some in Meico but far from Being a hero like Chavez,Olivares,Moarales,Sanchez and other greats from Mexico.... Even a newb to the game Saul Alvarez has far surpassed ODLh or any Mex/amer fighter. One other analysis on how different chicano and MExico fans think.... My dad , older cousins and uncles use to be regulars at the Olympic Auditorioum, and Forum back in the 70s.. I was a kid then so didnt hit the fights till the mid late 80s on up.. Damn you should hear some of the stories, ive heard about the brawls Mexicano and Chicano fans use to have.. .Over rooting for a certain fighter... My family use to say you could not c keep up with alll the brawls going on ... My dad and Uncles got into a mix with Mexicanos at the Bobby Chacon -Ruben Olivares matchup.. My dad and buddies had Chacon, long story short there was a mini riot in the arena.. but this was the norm... My point is that its near impossible to get love from the mases if your a chicano.... Not so hard with Chicnaos though as we love fighters from Mexico too... See a guy like Chavez,Sanchez is idolized by all mexicans. Grandpa sr speaks clear english but judging by his accent i think he was born in Mexico but has been here for quite along time. He brought his sons up in boxing and taught them everything they now so.. Speaking spanish in the corners is the norm and how they came up..... Ortiz is comfortable with it too... You ever seen his dad? Hard core MExican Cowboy .. He looks like the type of Hardcore old school Mexicano that didnt even allow english to be spoken at home. And the comparison about Rios & vargas to barrera-Morales.. Well the Mexicano duo is way more accomplished and are living legends loved by everyone even non boxing fan latino know who they are.... RIOS??? Are you kidding hes a noob.. Only hard core boxing fans know who he is.
Maybe Rios doesnt know fluent spanish.. You would be suprised how bad alot of Mex'/Amer spanish is.. I know alot that cant even put a whole sentence together.
