I thought I was just trippin when I noticed it in the documentary, but what on earth was going on with Jack Johnson's head? It seemed to grow even more after he retired, then start to cave in on the sides. Looks like he had some type of gland issue, like acromegaly.

 

This photo was taken probably in 1910-15 of Soldier Kearns. Can you picture
Soldier Kearns today on STEROIDS ?
P.S. There was a fighter named Bob Moha,of that time, who made Soldier Kearns look almost anemic. Was also a better fighter. Greb,beat Moha.

 

I believe the picture above of Jack Johnson in ring togs was an exhibition against his old rival Joe Jeannette,a year or so before JJ was killed in a car crash driving to the Louis/Conn fight.
P.S. About this period I and my dad shook Jack Johnson's hand at a small Carnival in NYC....He wore a beret at the time, I recall...Time marches on...
