Why not? That's exactly why it should be compared. They have a great culture of boxing, which is why they are so great P4P.

Also, I'm not Puerto Rican so I'm not going to take offence.

It's like saying you can't compare Brazil to Mexico in football because football is more popular in Brazil? Makes no sense.

Let me give you an example of what i'm trying to tell you. You said imagine if PR had the population of Mexico they would have many more. I'm telling you Imagine if all there was in Mexico was boxing with the population it has...there would be thousands of champions! If you want to make a more even comparison look at how many PRican champions are from the U.S. and look at how many Mexicans from the U.S there are.

Nah man, i said that its an awesome feat, for such a small island to have many champs. Mexico's main sport has always been soccer, boxing is a major sport there too, but nowhere near as big as in Soccer...who knows if Boxing was as big as soccer is, Mexico would probably have more champs as well, but of course thats all speculation.. But at least you did admit that Mexico (and US) do have the greater fighters, not just more, which is what i was pointing out.

Yes but there isn't as big a boxing culture in Mexico. Which is why PR are greater. Christ above, it really isn't sinking in is it. What usually makes a country so great in the sport is how popular said sport is in the country.

By your logic, the U.S.A can use that excuse for every country that outdoes it in sport by saying "yeah, well, if that sport was as popular in this country we would be better". But it isn't. Which is why New Zealand are considered the greatest rugby nation in the world. I'm sure if rugby was as popular in the U.S or Mexico they would probably be better than NZ but they're not.

Are you saying that Mexico is a great soccer nation? Because believe me, it is VERY popular there. Boxing is more popular in PR than in the States here, but US STILL has the better boxers historically. As does Mexico.

You do not understand, there are no options in PR! In Mexico there are many! And PR is greater in what? Not number of champions and definately not qulity.

Collazo is really the only one that comes to name.

But to question your question the problem with the PR-US boxer are the same with US boxing as a whole.

Where are all the PR-US?? In Florida, and up north. All the gym up north as well has all the gyms in US period are on the decline. Up north gyms used to be the place to be in boxing. Boxing was a part of everyday life. Its not like that anymore.

Cali is the place where the new gym era is at. And mostly due to Mexicans. You never hear about gym wars in NY. Come on even the Kronk gym got shut down. Thats the only example I need.

I'm sure if PR was attached to the main land it would be a different situation.

Regardless I see that Puerto Rico will become a even bigger part of boxing. Now GBP, Lou Dibella, Miguel Cotto promotines , etc. are investing in PR boxing program. Its not just Top Rank. With this more exposure and money going into the mainland there is bound to be more output of fighter hailing from the motherland.

Cotto is technically a US-PR, wasn't he born in Rhode Island?

    Number of champions per capita.

Everyone who isn't a Mexican accepts that PR > Mexico P4P. It's just a fact, one you seem to have a problem accepting.

Yep. Just like Benitez, i believe he was born in NYC, but was pretty much raised in PR. Camacho was the other way around, born in PR and raised in NYC.

edit: Well actually i just read Cotto was born in Long Island.

If that was really the case then why has the East Coast(same area as Us Ricans) put out more Black champs than the West Coast(same area as Chicanos)?
