Khan will become best-ever Brit - De La Hoya

Amir Khan is standing on the brink of greatness after defeating Paul McCloskey, according to six-weight world champion Oscar de la Hoya.
Following his one-sided win over McCloskey on Saturday, which arrived via technical decision after the clash was stopped in the sixth, Khan is set for one more fight at light-welterweight - a unification showdown with Timothy Bradley, the WBC and WBO champion, this summer - before moving up a division, with Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jnr firmly on his radar.
Irrespective of opponents, Khan's next few bouts are set to take place in America, meaning he will be working closely with De La Hoya, who houses the Brit as part of his Golden Boy Promotions stable - and the legend is expecting to see fireworks.
"Amir is going to be one of the very best," De La Hoya told the Daily Star. "We're going to be able to call him great in the near future because he's going at a pace where he wants to fight everybody. He wants to unify the titles. I've said this before and I see some of myself in him. He can be Britain's 'Golden Boy' [De La Hoya's ring nickname].
"Now we're looking at what's in the future for Amir Khan and the future is unifying the titles. He can do it, too, because he is just so good. I believe he will become one of Britain's best-ever fighters, if not the best - and I know you've had a lot of great fighters.
"Time will tell, but from what I see he will be among the greats in the near future. He has everything going for him. I think he would do great against Bradley."

De La Hoya needs to calm down abit, Im a fan of De La Hoya the fighter but not so much of DLH the promotor. The guy is so pro-Khan its unreal if you havent seen the full post fight conference then I suggest you take a look at it but he basically said "The doctor stopped the fight, Im not the doctor, We are going to fight Bradley now to unify the titles, Forget about a rematch". To be fair he did receive alot of criticism from Eddie Hearn directed at him and I think he had enough at that point, De La Hoya just couldnt wait to leave the UK even a reporter asked him if coming to the UK left a sour taste in his mouth.


Also I still see Khan as a prospect of sorts, I know I will get chewed for that statement but what I mean by that is that Khan has massive potential and what he has achieved so far is in my opinion a fraction of what he can achieve depending on how he is matched and how much Khan wants it. But honestly DLH is going over the top and Khan could end up like Ortiz until he fought Maidana. Also Khan didnt look the same fighter against McCloskey as he did against Maidana, Its possible Maidana just beat the soul out of Khan like Chavez did to Meldrick Taylor and Taylor never recovered from that beating.


Lastly DLH seems to think Primetime is like Showtime in the US, Ie number 2 after HBO/Sky and he wants to forge a relationship between his promotional company and primetime, I dont know if he is just naive or what but time will tell.

Why can't Primetime carry on growing. Oscars an entrepreneur look what hes done with Golden Boy, whos to say he can't grab a couple of other UK prospects from Warren after theyve been shown on Sky PPV and then move them onto Primetime

This is an excellent move, Sky have a monopoly and that is never good, they can tell a fighter to **** off and thats it. Definately a bold move by Khan, Sky can go **** themselves, lol they didn't even allow Ricky Hatton to be shown on Primetime at ringside or be shown at the event thats how worried they are of Khan going to Primetime and what it might lead to

All this bull**** that they don't make money from boxing PPV, then why the **** do they show these events. As they get good advertising money, more subscribers to Sky Sports, they profit big time.

 

Thats a misconception it wasnt for free, You would have to go through the hassle of subscribing to sky sports if you didnt already have it.
