Sheezaz kris, the Sunday morning effect is on for Ortiz I see. Okay - I like Ortiz. Always had and was rooting for him and defending him after all his fights post Maidana. But this is silly. Now suddenly he cleans up 140, 147 and 154 because he beat Berto???? WTF!! This is like Donaire post Montiel where he was suddenly guaranteed future ATG. OK he beat a great opponent - his BEST win by a long margin. But did that suddenly wipe out his 6 last fights? No, it does mean he is improving and getting better. But is he in the same level as other 147+ fighters? I have him win winning versus Clottey via SD or UD - not because of skill but Clottey is just inactive enough to lose it. Active enough he beats Ortiz. Ortiz has no chance at this point in his development versus Cotto, 140 Hatton, and he will surely take a knee more than once versus Margo. I would love him to fight Pac, PBF, Alvarez, Cotto and Cintron. I have him losing to all 4 except Cintron. I remind you that the kid still needed some pep talk from Grandpa Garcia between rounds.... which should clue you in. He still has mental wars in his head. Berto win gives him a rejuvenated boost of confidence but years of doubt can come crashing in when you face guys that do not bend. Clottey and Margo do not bend. Cotto I don't think so either and Cotto is more highly skilled and knows how to fight inside and more versatile than Berto.
He had the tools that are needed to be the top dog at the division 147, except the ring iq, solid seasoned sparring partners can help that, Carras
Looping shots? Berto's punches are straight for the most part.....WTF are you talking about. Again just more "Know-Nothing" boxing fans making **** up to serve some bull**** agenda
Hey lance ortiz just beat berto that makes him top 2 p4p and an atg do you not realise that?? Ha ha ha
Can we let Ortiz prove himself instead of putting him one a high pedestal? Stop overrating and overhyping him. He beat Berto, that's great. Collazo probably beat Berto too. Ortiz isn't ready for any of those guys. Cotto would beat him badly and so would Clottey. Hatton at 140 would have beaten him by decision.
Regardless of how you guys feel about Ortiz, he earned a spot amongst those who deserve a shot at FLoyd/Pac. Here's the facts: He is now the top welter not named Money or Pac. If a fight between Pac and FLoyd does not happen and either of them still wants to fight at 147 Ortiz is the obvious opponent.
Ortiz has never defended a world title. Ortiz has only been 12 rounds once in his entire career. Ortiz is 1-1 in two title fights having been knocked down 4 times and stopped once.
why does he have to be garbage or legendary, cant we all just agree that this guy is a decent boxer with a good future if he makes the right choices and keeps training hard. He had a good win saturday, no need to extremely overrate the guy or underrate him as well.
So what, he just earned the #3 spot at 147, this has nothing to do whether or not he can even hang with FLoyd or PAC. Let me ask you this. If Floyd and Pac decide not to fight each other who else do they fight at welter?
you say "who else" as if Ortiz is on the list. He isn't. Pac should fight Bradley. Floyd needs to fight Pac or stay retired.
