He's saying after Khan fights Bradley, the winner should step up and fight Manny, he's 100% confident (in words) that Khan will beat Bradley so that means he's pushing for a Khan/Manny fight quite soon, Manny is Roach's prized student and it's no secret he'd definitely be working Manny's corner if the two did meet. I think Roach wants rid of Amir tbh, he's seen Team Khan stupidly get rid of Alex Ariza (Roach's good friend and conditioner of almost every other fighter in the Wild Card) and the fallout with Sky hasn't done Khan any favours, nor has his attitude after the McCloskey fight. What do you reckon? everyone knows Manny will destroy Khan (I personally can't see him getting past Bradley) so what is Roach's motive for wanting to make the fight sooner rather than later when Khan needs to improve a lot before he's on the P4P level.
BoumaScene.com: Your thoughts on the British press quoting you concerning a potential bout between Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao? FR: I said that in very jovial, joking manner, and everyone laughed. I laughed. Everybody knew I was joking. You know, 147 pounds is a weight class that I think that Amir Khan could fight. But he would fight the Floyd Mayweathers or a guy like a Victor Ortiz, who just beat Andre Berto. But when I said that Amir would fight Manny Pacquiao, it was a joke, and Amir laughed also. They knew that I was joking. I mean, if Amir went to 147, Manny Pacquiao is the biggest one there. So, you know, I sort of threw him into the mix. But they will never fight each other. They are such good friends, you know, that that fight would never happen. It just won't happen. BoumaScene.com: But if it did happen, you have gone on record as saying that you would not choose to work Amir Khan's corner over Manny Pacquiao's corner, correct? FR: Yes.
I can see a Khan split with Roach in the future but i think its more likely to be instigated by Khan's team. Roach knows that Pacquaio will quit boxing fairly shortly for politics and Khan is his next student that he wants to push to the top.
I think Team Khan are ******ed but not that ******ed they know Roach is the one that helps the chicken lay the daily golden egg. They wont get rid of Roach.
For Khan sake i hope not, however if they start looking to cut roach's money or something like that and **** him off, well stranger things have happened in boxing. Lets say i think there a much better chance of Khan team instigating a split from Roach than the other way round.
Yeah I think they learnt there lesson with Rubio, They wanted a coach on the cheap that was a yes man and we all know what happened there. Roach they know will get them more money out of Khan than any other trainer so they will stick with Roach until the end I feel. Also if you look at the videos of Elie Seckbach etc Shah Khan is always up Freddie Roach ass, So is Khan, Its always Freddie says...., Freddie did, Freddie this and Freddie that...
And Ariza only works with 2 Wild Card fighters - Pac and Chavez. Vale does the majority now. Ariza is rarely seen in the gym.
Pac and Chavez are the two big fighters in the gym aside from Amir Khan (I'm guessing Malignaggi doesn't count)
At the end of the day this is Freddie's job and he wants to get paid. Why would Freddie let go of this project (Khan) right now, especially when there are some potentially big paydays to come soon?
Yeah - if you heard Bunce on 5live the other day, he was going on about how at the end of the day Roach is a massive mercenary. Which is probably true. Doesn't make him a bad person or a bad coach. He just like dollar.
Rubio was never the issue. Roach will not have been happy about coming all the way to England, breaking camp with Pacquiao for a much lower fee than he usually gets.
