By the same timeframe Floyd Mayweather Jnr was fighting Carlos Genaro in the 4th defence of his World title. It was his 22nd fight.

De La Hoya was in his 21st fight, had already won 3 world titles in 2 divisions and was moving up to 140lbs to challenge for a 3rd.

weak opponent for a weak belt. not impressed by either. mutley is just your average contender now. warren is bullshitting us with gavin. he doesn't think he is completely ready. gavin should be fighting for the british title by now. degale is getting treated right but saunders isn't.

ive always said it, warren moves fighters along based on his belief in their ability. if warren did not believe in degale, he would not be fighting groves and that is a fact.

gavin needs to have a word with his promoter and push for a bigger fight. same issue with calzaghe and hatton, by the time they got bigger fights they couldn't be bothered anymore and jumped ship.

 

making comparisons is all good and well but comparing gavin to de la hoya and mayweather, do you seriously think gavin could have gone 21 fights unbeaten won a title at 140 and defended it 4 times or that he could have done what de la hoya did? not a chance, hes a good fighter and theres no better promoter than warren, i believe warren knows gavin will struggle above domestic level due to a lot of things and is holding him back, 140 is a deep division above domestic level

 

Young Mutley will deserve a medal if he wins this one!

 

Gavin really does the look the kinda' fighter to pull of 'big name' feats IMO. At this rate, well, I'm quite agitated about it to be honest. The lad deserves much better, he's sick in the ring.
