JML is not going to just become Toney/Mayweather/Benitez in one fight, he needs to put a LOT of time into improving his defense and learning when to sloww down the pace of the fight to turn from brawler to boxer. JML has been banging away his opponents almost all of his career and he just can't help from fighting at high paces. He would have to fight smarter and avoid too many exchanges with the more durable Salido, not going to happen. Salido by ko but props for JML for taking this fight again. One thing I do not give him props for is rematching Mtgawa but that discussion is for another time. Salido is JML's poison as many fighter's have a style that beats and/or just gives them hell and Salido is JML's weakness. Salido also holds a mental edge because he won the last fight and the tide was his way for most of the fight and also, he ko'd JML. JML just can't deal with a incredibly tough, hard-hitting fighter like Salido.
That goes for the majority of stuff from posters on fighters on this forum. Most people on this site don't analyze fights , they're idiots that jump on the chance to babble nonsense.
After watching the fight last night again I came to a conclusion. JML had to have been affected by the weight and/or that divorce. His punches didnt have that usual snap to them. Almost seemed like arm punches. He did throw some that were nice but even then they were not hurting Salido. The one time he did make him stumble was because Salido reached in and caught him with a right uppercut. The other time when the crowd went crazy was at the end of the 7th when he chased him after catching him clean but even then i saw Salido land 2 more authoritative punches than JML. I would like to see a rematch with a fully focused JML. It might be the same thing being that JML has practically no head movements and to top it off keeps his gloves a little low at times. Specially after throwing. I think the rematch is a toss up in which JML would more than likely get the nod based on popularity. Salido is a beast. I would love to see my boy Mikey Garcia taking on him since that would be good experience.
Man i have noticed that. Just like how everyone keeps bringing up Canelos chin because Cotto a career LW staggered him. Had they actually seen the type of punch it was they would understand. Its obvious they havent seen it otherwise they would understand. Gamboa i think suffers from the JMM syndrome. He can get caught off balance and will go down but his legs never seem shaky. Their recoperative powers are amazing.
I haven't seen Canelo's fight but I do think you draw an accurate parallel between Gamboa and JMM. Both get off balance often but after they get up they're fine. I don't think I've ever seen Gamboa seriously hurt and I know that JMM has not been badly staggered in a fight either. Balance is more of the issue between the two then durability. When they get up they get back in the fight.
juanma is taking a beating as of late. its catching up to him. hes slurring and he looked like a dead man after the fight with salido. i see the same results again
All he needs to do is avoid exchanges. He does that he wins. Seeing him repeatedly start bombing as soon as he received a decent shot was just sad. Poor strategy. I don't know what he or his corner were thinking. If solido is doing the right cross, headbutt, right hook combo he should recognize and be ready for that. Throw more than one uppercut. Basically if he boxes he wins and if he trades he can lose. Juanma was far superior to solido as a fighter but i guess not as a thinker. That was a disgraceful loss.
A lot of people do not even know what they are witnessing when watching a fight. Same problem with society. Puttin so much emphasis on the result (what) ,when it is actually the WHY that tells the story.
No he has to become the fighter he used to be...he is the superior boxer to Salido and can outbox fairly easy imo...he has just been slugging it out lately..I can't recall him throwing a single meaningful right jab...that is not the same fighter we saw against Ponce De Leon..he' swinging for the fences and leaving himself wide open to be countered with big shots rather than boxing and letting the KO come like he did with Ponce De Leon He's not gonna become Penell Whitaker, but he has the tools to outbox Salido JuanMa UD
That and people put TOOOOO MUCH emphasis on workrate. If a punch doesn't land it does not score. They can't break down a fight so they only rely on compubox though it's very flawed. It separtes the "casual viewers who know nothing of the sweet science" from the "devoted followers of the sport". I'm very young yet I know a lot because boxing is in my heart and blood(my dad follows it and he got me into it).
He hasn't been that fighter you mention for over 2 years now. In these last 2 years he has taken an amazing amount of punishment, huge punches, he is not the same physically.
No, you're right I won't argue that.. The fact is, he isn't gonna win a fight with Salido but I still believe he can win a boxing match with him..
