The evolution of Victor Ortiz

Hideously inaccurate, when he lands a decent shot constantly tries to replicate it, constant holding.

 

Since when was Berto a legit world champion?

 

I was half-right when I said Ortiz could rid of him early doors ;-)

 

I wouldn’t get too carried away. Ortiz looked a lot more committed, but after the sixth round, Berto didn’t really give him too much to worry about. He’s definitely healthier at 147, but his technique is still a bit sloppy. He rushes in, smothers his work and forgets about his body punching.

He’s obviously a bit more grown up and a lot more settled as a person. Berto’s a solid B-level fighter, as proved by his hellish experience against Collazo. So the Haitian isn’t the litmus test for someone like Ortiz.

Luckily for him there aren’t too many dangers at 147 right now. Some decent boxers, but no killers. Mayweather’s out of commission (and isn’t as his best with young, prime, southpaws who will move up to 154 in at least two years), and Pac’s with Top Rank, plus Ortiz has a pulse so that’s not with the programme either.

Mosley’s about to get retired, short of landing a hellacious right-hand on a marauding Pac-monster, and Berto’s already had his ass kicked.

 

Clottey would be a good opponent but that'll never happen unless he leaves Bob.

 

And Clottey knows which side his bread is buttered :deal

 

Its just a maturity thing i think.

He wanted the lifestyle and fame of a fighter without really knowing what it took


The loss probably humbled him and gave him the mindset that you get nothing given to u for free.

Also maybe the weight? He looked massive at the weight against Berto, maybe he was draining his stamina and resistance and the extra boost helped him massively mentally


Whatever the reason, i wana see him fight again soon!

 

Bob has lined his pockets well but there's has been a few who have jumped ship recently.
It would be a real statement if Ortiz could stop him.

 

the axe murderer version of ortiz we saw last saturday gives anyone hell.

 

Ortiz was awesome against Berto. If he can keep bringing that determination with him he can cause problems to anyone (including Mayweather and Pacquiao IMO). Reminded me of Ricky Hatton at times the way he wouldn't let Berto rest. Potentially Ortiz could be more skilful and has a better punch range than Hatton though so could well do more. A future fight with Ortiz and Alvarez could well be massive in 2013/2014 but obviously it's a little down the line now.

That 1.5 million for Ortiz-Berto was only for the live Saturday viewing. It will be much more when you take into account the replays and VOD

Great news and this was it going H2H with JunaMa on Showtime too.

 

Ortiz is a nice kid, no bad bone in his body, i am very happy for him.

Watched to full fight the other night, has to be FOTY so far by miles.

 

It wasn't even fight of the weekend.
