Victor 'Viscous' Ortiz vs Amir 'King' Khan @ 147? Who you like + Why?

It was a 147 fight, but both guys, I think, were 145 on the night of the weigh-in. And on fight-night, Ortiz was 161 whilst Berto was 155 (?). As for how he’d deal with the bigger, stronger welterweights, I’m not sure. We have to be careful and not let the Berto win deceive us into thinking he’s now a serious force at the weight. I mean, he looked very vulnerable at times, and funnily enough, it was his incredible heart which played a massive part in seeing him to the end. He has to tighten his defence if he wants to avoid falling victim to a more dangerous welterweight. But with that said, with Berto out of the way, who else out there is a serious threat? Pacquiao and Mayweather, of course, are in there own little world. Which leaves Mosley after Pac’s done with him. And I think Mosley would brutalize Ortiz.

 

You guys think Ortiz was big at 147, wait until Khan moves upto 147 then you will see who is bigger.

No, a 147lbs monster would equal Thomas Hearns, Khan is not a 147lbs monster.

And Ortiz rehydrated 15lbs, how would Khan outdo him by any margin, you wee puff?

 

I am not comparing him to Hearns, in this age Khan 5'10 would be great at 147

Kids in the amateurs, you get standing eigths by getting punched in the nose in the amateurs these days.

It's not really a fair assessment of how a pro fight would go down between the two. Khan and Ortiz would make for quite an exciting fight, and if Khan can't stay on the outside and make it a boxing match, Ortiz with his complete 161lbs would likely spell trouble for him, even though I don't think Victor is a big puncher, he's still a big guy.

 

We will see when he moves up then.

I would pick Khan to beat Ortiz any day of the week, but how would Khan be significantly bigger than a man weighing 161lbs on a contracted fight weight of 147lbs when nobody else is at 147lbs, men with thicker bone structure than Khan?

 

Bad fight for Khan. Khan has no inside game at all imo. He has no inside punch to keep Victor off him nor does he have defense on the inside as displayed by his fight with Maidana. Ortiz will get inside on Khan and then take him out.

 

Thats what would be intriguing about that fight, it's speed vs power and Khan can't let Ortiz bully him on the inside.

I'd love for this fight to happen.

Why do you say better defence?

 

We dont what Khan's power be like at 147? adding any weight to that speed might have good results, maybe a bit like Pacman also a fighter with great speed.

 

I honestly have no idea.

Before I form an educated opinion I'll have to see how Khan performs at 147 first, honestly.

If he does as well as I think he will at that weight, and he keeps improving with every fight I think his speed and power are enough to keep Ortiz honest enough for him to pick up a decision. Khan will fight on the outside, where Victor has limited ability, and jab his way to a decision victory.

I also think Khan is improving his inside game somewhat, he threw some nice uppercuts and hooks to the body up close on McCloskey the other night.
