The World Championships Committee of the World Boxing Association is opening to purse bid the WBA cruiserweight champion Guillermo Jones vs interim champion Yoan Hernandez. The purse bid will take place on April 28th at at WBA Headquarters in Panama City, Panama. The minimum bid is $200,000 and the purse split is 55% champion/45% interim. According to WBA rules the bout shall be scheduled to take place not less than 45 days and not more than 90 days from the date of the bid award, unless a different date is agreed to by the boxers and approved by the Championships Committee. This will likely KO any plans for Jones to defend against #8 Ryan Coyne in his next bout as had been announced by the Coyne camp. April 19th, 2011
Interesting I like both fighters. Normally I aren't too keen on boxers as stiff and textbook and Hernandez but I like him. I only wish he would throw more shots, he hits harder than his KO % shows IMO. Jones is an interesting fighter too. How can a welterweight be 6'4?
This one I look forward very much so, these are talented cruisers flying under the radar, Jones is particularly underrated, some say he wasted a HOF career, but does fairly good despite his age and weight is far from his best. JP packs some power so maybe he can put an end to Guillermo's fine run, but he doesn't like a moving target, thanks that to the Ulli Wegner school of stright line European boxing that put his natural Cuban fighting on the shelf. He's no Joe Louis, that's for sure. Wait, he is.
Very interesting, it's about time that Cuba scores with another World Champ. Dále Hernandez !!!!!!!!!
Slightly annoyed the Coyne fight has fallen through Mike Garrett (Coyne's business manager) had promised me an interview =/
I like Jones, but 2 fights in 4 years is bad for any fighter but even worse for one whos 39. Jones is a unique kind of fighter though and logic doesnt seem to apply to so maybe the incredible expanding man can pull it out.
