Very disappointing. He turned pro the same time as James DeGale and DeGale is co-headlining a PPV whilst Gavin is fighting someone irrelevant on the undercard. Warren is clearly relying on DeGale to be his next star but he could regret putting all his eggs in one basket.

 

I guess he meant Kevin.

 

I see this for what it is, responsible matchmaking by Warren, Young Mutleys no div and albeit a slight step up its a step up none-the-less. Goes without saying Frankie will have too many tools for him and win either by late stoppage or points but it'll be testing and not the walk in the park that some people are intimating.

 

Young ****ing Mutley? You've got to be joking me.

Last time I saw Mutley he was getting spread like jam by some feather fisted east european on the Froch/Dirrel undercard. He's not a step up for Gavin of any sort at this stage.

 

Good point, quite competitive at the top level at 140 too, no need to rush things

 

As others have said, this is all about a learning curve. What level should Frankie Gavin be fighting at? Southern? No, that's too low. World? That's obviously too high for someone of his inexperience. But a fight against a decent opponent, as Young Mutley is, is a good fight for someone having their 10th professional fight and whose previous hardest fight, on paper, was against Michael Lomax.

Let the boy learn his trade.

I don't see why Gavin won't box his ears off unless his strength and power is too much. Mutley will hang around to take his licks while being a bit dangerous due to his power.

Gavin needs to have a word with Fwank.

 

Warren says he is gonna try and get dudey for gavin after mutley, doubt it will happen but would make a good fight.

 

He loves selling his fighters off of Khan's name doesn't he

 

if he is going to have learning fights take on guys like Lomax, Mutley etc in 8 rounders and do it 8 times a year.

mutley is a good opponent for your 10th fight but not 3 years into your career.

There is a level in between area and world.....commonwealth/british/european its all where Gavin should be fighting. as a world amateur champion he should be moving quicker than your average fighter. that why i mentioned oscar and floyd.

look at Britains former world medalists Froch and Haye. at the same stage Haye was European champion with 16 fights. Froch was on 15 fights and British & Commonwealth champion.
