The Greatest Fight Card Of All Time?

I remember being so psyched for that card after Barrera v Juarez 1. Rematch was a disappointment, Guzman v Barrios was good but Izzy v Jhonny stole the show. I lost count the number of knockdowns that happened.

 

Great at the time too as they were all, I believe, medal winners from the previous olympics.

 

What else was on it? Or do you mean the race card?

 

Gaz was there, singing along to Jim-A-Da-Jeff.

 

Wasn't there one in Mexico in about '92-'93 featuring Chavez, Nelson-Ruelas, Norris-Blocker, Nunn, McClellan and Trinidad? Pretty cool!

Domestically - Naz-Vasquez, Eubank-Thompson I, Hatton, Witter, Hide and Reid all on the same card.

 

Or... Jackson-McClellan I, Lewis-Tucker, Chavez, Taylor, Camacho, Carr and Tate.

Or 'Night of the Rematches' - McClellan-Jackson II, Lopez, Taylor, Chavez-Randall, Norris-Brown, Nelson-Leija... all lb4lbers FFS

Yeah, all golds except for Holyfield. They showed it on UK TV the next weekend and my Old Man was disgusted they were all were tassles on their boots and had their names on their shorts before they'd even won a world title...

 

There was a great fight card down my local a few months back.

Kicked off with a main event featuring two guys squabbling over the same woman. With a good undercard bout featured said woman fending off one of the guy's wives.

As it ventured out on to the streets some family members became involved after being texted about the shenanigans.

I would've wrote a report on it but didn't think to take my notepad or my dictaphone for interviews afterwards.

 

Hill only got a silver too.

Wasn't Holyfields loss a controversial DQ?

1984, feels like an appropriate time to say Holyfield, hang 'em up.

 

I'd forgot Hill was on that card TBH!! Yep, Holyfields DQ was a little harsh, its on YouTube I think if you want to take a look (can't link, I'm in work!)

 

CBA right now. Never really been a fan of amateur, read about it in McIlvanney's book I think.

 

I'm not an amatuer fan these days but back then it was a lot more like the pros. Much better to watch IMHO.

 

Yep, amateur boxing nowadays is pretty much pants from what I've seen. There are a few fighters I've seen that look quality, the rest is like pillow-fisted fencing.
