Indeed, although im still buying this PPV for the simple fact of watching Degale vs Groves and a world title fight. Have paid for more rip off ones than this tbh although i did expect Gavin to have a better opponent and was hoping for Bellew v Mckenzie or Smith v Anderson to add to it.
The problem is Sky have cut their budget for boxing but are still trying to run the same number of shows. So they amount they'll pay per show has gone right down but the promoters other than Frank haven't twigged that the economics have changed. Unfortunately with the likes of Matchroom and Henessey willing to throw big money at fighters and matches he's stuck with putting fights on ppv. To me the biggest thing holding british boxing back is Sky's demand for weekly fights. Its spreading the resources to thin and putting everyone on a constant grind when they don't have the time to put together and market truely appealing shows.
Thats the thing. People who don't think this card is PPV worthy are really saying the standard of what constitutes a PPV card generally isn't high enough because this card is far from the worst PPV card over the last few years.
Not that bad and in case you're wondering Mutley isn't the 'potential huge step up in class' that Frankie mentioned. And it wasn't his nor Warrens fault it never came off
He'd lost control of the heavyweight title, which he'd had for years, and had to do something special to keep his name out there. Before that he concentrated on the heavies and Bob Arum had the lions share of the lower weights.
The Brit pack was definately a better line up of fights than the Mag 7, the fact you got a marquee to headline it in Khan always helps! Plus you had Ortiz vs Peterson.
I think most that bought tickets have done so for the 2 main fights. Undercard is not fantastic but any good fights added wil be a bonus. Hopefully less idiots will attend than a card featuring the more prolific fighters from these shores
I do agree though can't see it doing big numbers as no established household names on the card and personally feel its lacking a bit for a PPV although one more solid undercard (those mentioned above) would change that.
Same here tbh. If its a choice of the fight happening on ppv or the fight not happening at all, id be happy to splash out 15 quid, and im a tight fisted asian yorkshireman.
