So Fitzsimmons gets destroyed 2x by Jeffries yet he has a shot vs Louis and Marciano?

BTW SUzie has this ass backwards, thin legs tend to indicate weak chin/durability rather than a lack of power, some punchers get their power from their legs. Fitz may have a big punch, although it'll do less damage with bigger gloves, but can he take Rocky's punch? He couldn't take Jeffries punches the same punches that Johnson literally laughed at, and he also was easy to hit for Corbett, so Rocky will find him easy to hit and quite capable of knocking him out

Actually Moore may well have been a more lethal puncher and Fitz wouldn't be nearly as lethal with bigger gloves

Except for one thing. Fitz used the big gloves regularly, and it apparently didnt dilute his power in the slightest. I dont believe more had the power of Fitz. At least, he wasnt as skilled at landing it anyway.

Fitz would have been familiar with every size of gloves up to 8oz.

On the other hand, if we are going to downgrade his power because of the gloves he used, then we should upgrade his chin because he took punches from 200lb heavyweights with the same gloves.

I dont think Moore had Fitz's one shot power either.
I was referring to Fitz's reaction to Corbett's, and Jeffries shots.

I thought i read that Fitz fought some bouts with larger gloves than that. Maybe this was Sullivan?

In any case, you make an excellent point about his chin.

Do you know what size the gloves in the Jeffries bout were? It really does start to make those KO1 predictions look sillier and sillier.

I agree with the analysis of Fitz and his physique, he is not a natural Heavyweight in any way, but he could punch there can be no argument over this, and if he had the reflexes to take a punch which I believe he did. then he could fight at HW.

To me Fitz looks a bit like Hearns, Marciano is different he had enormous natural strength, it is unfair to compare their physiques in relation to punching power. There is no doubt Fitz could punch with the best.

I am pretty confident that the problems with Corbett were more to do with Corbetts speed, skill and class. Also, he was concentrating on a dangerous but specific tactic, like Foreman against Moorer, but with an obvious higher class of opponent.

Jeffries, I think has very underated power. And definitely underated speed. I dont think he hit as hard as say foreman, but he certainly hit a lot harder than say Larry Holmes or Evander Holyfield.

And his speed is underated also. He wasnt as quick as Ali Tunney Patterson or Corbett, but he was quicker than Marciano, Foreman, and probably Frazier Holyfield or spinks.

Jeffries Workrate is also very underated, i think.

And finally dont forget Fitz' age by the time of these battles. Actually, i think that Fitz' best might have actually existed some time before the Corbett fight. If you consider that he was actually eventually bettered Corbett, it is quite astounding just how good, even at heavyweight, he really was.

To an extent but he hasn't been in with a puncher anything like Rocky, in terms of power, timing or accuracy

Marciano might hit a bit harder than anybody hes been in with, but I don't think it is going to be an out of this world experience for Fitzsimmons.

He has probably come closer to facing Marciano than Marciano has to facing him.

Why Moore arguably has better HW wins/resume/power than Fitz, as does Charles, as does Walcott as does Louis obviously although he was past prime but still. Nothing Rocky hasn't seen before here, Fitz is in with the best puncher of all time, what's the best/strongest puncher he's been in with? Jeffries? And Jeffries was all about accumulation and strength with sub par technique, and what about Rocky's workrate - Fitz is used to leaned back style slow paced and he's in with a continually pouncing menace, this is a complete other stratasphere

Also if you've boxed you'll know when you push a puncher on the backfoot they usually lose their power, Rocky was great at making an opponent back up, Fitz would be off balance and probably looking to take evasive action

Hagler-Hearns type fight or Marciano-Moore type fight for me

    No.

Rocky still isn't the best puncher of all time.
