The more I look at Holmes' record the more it impresses me.

:good Agreed cant no one sell me that bull about Holmes receiving a few disputed decisions... Only his fight with Carl Williams was razor close (i had it even)... Tough fight with Witherspoon, but he definitely pulled it out.

No. Your wrong Mendoza. Page beat Renaldo Snipes in a FINAL WBC title eliminator. He became Holmes MANDATORY CHALLENGER. Instead of fighting Page, Holmes threw his WBC belt in the trash and fought Marvis Frazier instead...YUCK!!

    Fair enough points.
It's hard to say how bad decisions actually are without seeing the full fights though.
Sometimes crowds go crazy booing decisions that are very close - esp. when a massive underdog loses out.
But, yeah, it must have been quite a dodgy one.

(Louis sucked against Godoy in the first fight, it's true. Godoy sucked too though.)

Godoy did not suck in that fight. more like some of his antics at the very end were strange. Godoy who fought out of a crouch, really got low, out worked Louis, easily bulled Louis to the ropes, and landed more punches. Louis forgot his uppercut, and did not land much. The 15th round was strange. Godoy was very low sometimes bending over as if he was crawling into a cramped space, and ending up kissing Louis after the final bell. But I still think Godoy won the fight. Watch the flims. The judging in the fight was very inconstant as if no three men were watching the same fight. I think only 2 rounds were scored the exact same way.

Back to Holmes...while he did offer some easy title defenses, he also fought many punchers, and top rated guys. I forget how many of Holmes 20 title defenses were vs ring rated opponents. I would guess at least 15 of the 20.

When I said twenty title defenses , I should have put 20 successful title defenses and then he ran into Spinks, having a shade over 20 lbs on him . Spinks was the WBA,WBC AND IBF light heavyweight Champ coming into this fight, and then winning the IBF Heavyweight title says quite a bit about him. Either way you look at it Tyson came back and dismantled both of them, but Holmes seemed more game to fight than Spinks did against Tyson. Those two wins for Tyson need to be there in order to help soldify his legend.

It is interesting you say Holmes has a case for no.1 all time, I believe Holmes would have defeated all the fighters mentioned here he should have fought and that wonderful jab would cause any past or present fighter nightmares.

Im not giving him a pass on that. there is nothing other than the draw against coetzee on pinklons resume that is remotly credible. obviously not himself? who else was he? was coetzee himself when he drew with pinklon?

Pink was like the rest of those slapstick abc champs who were ok until they won a title then because they had no seasoning agianst top fighters blew their next fight.

witherspoon also "wasnt himself" when he lost to pinky and bones smith. Tubbs "wasnt himself" when he lost to spoon, page "wasnt himself" when he lost to tubbs, weaver "wasnt himself" when he lost to dokes, dokes "wasnt himself" when he drew with weaver, dokes "wasnt himself" when he lost to coetzee and coetzee "wasnt himself" when he lost to page...theres a running theme to this comedy! They were all somebody else when it matered most.
